Project Graduation
Did
you know that Project Graduation
is a nationwide program started in
the
early 80's following the
deaths of 18 young people on
graduation
nights? Are you
aware that graduation night
is statistically the most
dangerous night in the
lives of young people? And most importantly, did you know
that there have been NO graduation night deaths of young
people since
Project Graduation started in Sonoma County in
1987?
The Windsor High School Project Graduation party is
possible through the efforts of dedicated parents and
community members. Although the students view the party as
a reward for 12 years of hard work (and it is!), our primary
goal is to SAVE LIVES.
The planning committee works nearly a full year to organize
and
finance the party. There are still plenty of ways to help:
** Project
Graduation 2010 information will be mailed to
parents in January. Ticket price is $40 through March
17, $50 from March 18-May 28, and $60 at the door.
Parents, please encourage your student to attend.
** Our second
fundraiser of the year, Junk Food Bingo, will
be held on February 5. We can use donations of junk
food for prizes or items for raffle baskets. Basket
themes include Chocolate Lovers, Pamper Yourself,
and Family Fun Night. Bring your
family to play. It's
a blast!
** There are still committee positions available. If you'd like
to help
plan and put on the party, we'd love to have
you!
** Many volunteers will be needed the night of the party. If
you are available
to work at least a 4 hour shift, let
us know.
** If you
have a business or know someone with a business
who would like to become one of our sponsors, or if
you would like to be a community

Project Grad Contracts are now available in the
front office. Make note, a contract has been mailed to you at

the Nile, has a reason to want heiress Linnet Ridgeway dead.
Her jewels are coveted by elderly Mrs. van Schuyler, her maid
is upset because Linnet won't give her a promised dowry,
writer Salome Otterbourne is facing a libel suit brought by
Linnet, Salome's daughter Rosalie wants to protect her mother,
American Andrew Pennington has been embezzling from the
Ridgeway family, and former friend Jacqueline de Bellefort
is
upset
that Linnet stole her fiance, Simon, away from her.

Turnabout Tickets
Tickets for the 2010 Turnabout Dance will be offered for
sale 2 weeks: January 25-29, and February 1-5. Students can
purchase their ticket in the main office at these times only:
7:30am-8:00am (prior to 1 30pm
st block), 2:00pm-2:
(immediately following 3 rd block), and 3:30pm-4:00pm

(immediately following 4 th block). No tickets will be offered
for sale at lunch time. Ticket prices are $15.00 with ASB,
$20.00 without. This year’s dance will be held on Saturday,

Fall 2009 CSF Members
The California Scholarship Federation (CSF), established in
1921, is a statewide organization to honor outstanding high
school students. Students apply for membership the first five
weeks of each semester; eligibility is determined by the grades
of the previous semester. A student who has been an active
member
of CSF for four semesters (including one during the
senior year) becomes a Life Member (Sealbearer).

Pledge a Dollar-a-Day

Intern on the WE Foundation Board.
has chosen the Dollar-a Day
fundraiser as her Senior Project. The
Dollar-a Day fundraiser was created
to support the growth and vitality of many at risk programs at
Windsor High School. Our hope is to raise money for future
students. Funds will be distributed by the WE Foundation,
allowing continuing enrichment, arts, music and sports
activities and programs. Some examples of past WHS grants
are: Yearbook Seminar, English and History Dept Field Trips,
Nueva School of the Arts, 10th Grade Academy, Bloco, New
Sudan Generation, Debate Team, ELD Department,
Leadership Dept. and WE Foundation Educational
Scholarships. It is these experiences that keep our students
engaged and enthused in their educations.

The WHS Yearbook is available for pre-order for $95.00
until Spring Break, $100.00 after that, if still available. Please
bring your check (made out to “WHS” and include student’s
name and grade in memo area) to the main office or C101. We
will sell out, so get your orders in! If you have any questions,

Jaggie’s Closet
In recognition of how expensive a dance can be, the
Leadership class has organized Jaggie's Closet. Here students
can access gently used formal wear for up-coming dances and
events (graduation, etc). Currently, there is a supply of
fashionable semi-formal to formal wear for both males and
females. Please contact Mrs. Rudesill in B124 if you would
like to donate clean semi-formal/ formal dresses, clutches or
handbags, men's jackets, dress shirts, etc… to this great cause
or if you wish to access any of the attire. Please note that all
transactions will be handled discreetly by adults.
Spring Sports Information
All Spring Athletes need to see Mr.
Sandwina in room M110 to turn in
their Sport Packet by the end of
January or as
directed by your
coach. If you have
already played a sport this year, you still
need to see Mr. Sandwina and get a copy of
a packet for your coach. Be sure to bring the
$80 Sports Participation Donation as well.
Remember, no completed packet, no try
out!
All students who plan on playing football this fall.
There is a mandatory meeting scheduled for Wednesday,
January 27th at 8:00 AM. Meet in Coach Lands' room

Boys Golf Team
Tryouts/First Day of Practice commences on Monday,
February 8 th at 4:15 P.M. at the Windsor Golf Course. In order
to participate a completed Sports Packet must be turned into
Athletic Director, Gene Sandwina between Wednesday,
January 13th and Friday, January 29th. For further information

goal is to get 1,000 escrip
enrollees this year. This would bring in over $25,000 to
the Boosters on an annual basis, which, of course, will go back
to the students and Windsor High! If you have lost your
Safeway Card and use your phone number to activate your
member discount, please call 800-SAFEWAY and ask for
your card number (takes about three minutes). Turn in your
Safeway e-script sign-up sheet to Lorraine in the office.

Help support Carrie Freyer’s Senior Project! A toothbrush
drive will begin on January 25th and run until February
5th. Boxes will be placed in history teachers’ rooms.
Toothbrushes, toothpaste and dental floss will be collected and
donated to kids in Tonga. The class who collects the most
items will have a pizza party.

Vintana Gate gets new location and posted hours

We will be opening a new school access gate from the Vintana
subdivision. The gate’s location was moved from behind
Windsor Oaks out to the area beyond G-Quad.

From Our Boosters…..
We would like to thank
everyone who attended this
year’s Boosters event… the
New Year’s Eve BASH! It was
a resounding success…and a
great time was had by all of
those who came! We had over
265 attendees and volunteers
who enjoyed the food,
magician, fire dancers, dancing,
casino and much more. The HOT Cool theme was evident
throughout; from the blue Cool interior décor to the red HOT
courtyard with fires a glow! We’d also like to thank Project
Grad for bringing us the casino…what a great job they did!
And, a special thanks to the WE Foundation for supporting us
and attending the event, as well as lending us use of their
dinner plates for the evening…we are very pleased to
collaborate with these groups for the common good of our
student programs. Our intention this year was to establish a
Booster event that allowed everyone to enjoy themselves and
leave the worries of 2009 behind. We opted to not to hold the
live or silent auction…but just a great celebration! It was just
that…a fabulous gala that brought in about $7000 for WHS
programs! We’ve already had numerous inquiries for next
year’s tickets! We would like

New Varsity Football Coach Named
Former JV Football Coach
Dustin Davis (29-0-1) has been
named this week to replace
Coach Jason Fayter after he
stepped down at the conclusion
of this past season. Coach
Fayter will continue teaching
at Windsor High and be a part
of our WHS family as he and
his wife Barbara start theirs.
He took on a program with

only 19 students the first year and built it to 3 full teams with
over 120 students participating. Our JV and Varsity Football
Squads have been attending a weeklong team camp at
University of Oregon and University of Nevada, Reno, the
past 4 years improving our teams and building camaraderie.
The program is being handed over to a very capable Coach,
Dustin Davis, who has not lost a football game in 3 years as
the JV coach. Windsor athletic director Gene Sandwina said
Davis’ passion, attention to detail and success at the junior
varsity level overrode any concerns about his experience.
Davis has spent four seasons at Windsor, serving as the junior
varsity’s defensive coordinator in 2006 before earning his first
head-coaching job with the JVs the following season. “He has
an incredible drive to succeed and it shows up in his day-today
approach to life and just really paying attention to detail,”
Sandwina said. “There’s a number of young coaches coming
through and some of them are very talented, extremely
motivated and have a great sense of what it takes to make a
program work. I think Dustin has those qualities.”
“The coaches I’ve played for have always stressed
fundamentals and I’m the same way,” Davis said. “I think if
we block, tackle, run, pass and catch better than the team we
are playing we are going to be successful. We work on those
things day in and day out.”
