An attack on Muslim-slavs in Nikšić At the beginning of May, unidentified persons assaulted three Muslim-Slav homes on Rada Knezevića Street, in the Montenegrin industrial town of Nikšić. The attack began with shots fired soon after midnight at the houses, next-door to each other, of Aljo Ćirković and Enver Kojić. The attackers then moved some 100 meters down the street to the house of Gane Ćirković. The houses inbetween are occupied by Serbs, and none showed bullet marks, in contrast to the attacked houses on which more than 50 bullet marks were counted. At the time of the attack, both Ćirković families and the Kojić family, with a total of eight small children, were inside their homes but nobody was hurt. An investigation is said to be under way. 7. Conclusions The information collected by Humanitarian Law Center field researchers and analyzed at the Center indicates that more than 800 Bukovica Muslims-Slavs have been forced from their homes and villages by the violence of Yugoslav Army members and unopposed incursions by Bosnian-Serb armed forces in the border region with Bosnia of Montenegro. The Center is concerned by the widespread view among Yugoslav Army members stationed in the region, supposedly to guard the border, of Muslim-Slavs as members of a hostile nation at war with the Serbs. The Center deplores the attitude of the Montenegrin authorities and the public at large in Serbia and Montenegro towards Bosnian-Serb forces allowed to enter the territory of another state unopposed and the crimes committed during these incursions. Bukovica engleski.qxd 15.3.2003 13:54 Page 115 Humanitarian Law Center ter’s concern is heightened by the absence, even after several months, of any official word on the fate of people taken from homes and from busses and trains, or on the identity of the abductors. The Humanitarian Law Center demands of the authorities in Serbia and Montenegro that they disclose the facts discovered with regard to the abductions of Muslim-Slavs. The families of the abducted men and the public at large have the right to know the facts in relation to the fate of the Sjeverin Muslim-Slavs and the passengers from train No. 671 and in connection with the arrest and release of Milan Lukić, the Bosnian-Serb paramilitary leader. 115
