Basic Principles<br />
Comprehensive and complex corporate design requires more<br />
than just a logo.<br />
The selection and use of fonts, colours, formats and images is<br />
not left to chance, contemporary taste or individual moods, but<br />
must be identifiable as a part of a deliberate overall strategy.<br />
The <strong>HAUTAU</strong> <strong>Design</strong> <strong>Manual</strong> is not a design manual which<br />
species fixed and schematic locations of fonts, images and logos.<br />
Rather, it is a tool which uses specific examples to illustrate how<br />
a lively, unique and confident corporate image can be communicated<br />
by using design elements in a consistent manner.<br />
The manual can be updated in accordance with the development<br />
and ongoing changes the company undergoes.<br />
Principles of Use<br />
The objective of <strong>Corporate</strong> <strong>Design</strong> is to achieve and assure a<br />
uniform public image as well as the consistent use of the brand<br />
around the world and to maintain and increase the brand's<br />
competence and radiation of quality.<br />
In order to achieve these goals it is crucial that the mandatory<br />
rules established for the company's market presence be followed<br />
explicitly and in accordance with their meaning.<br />
The <strong>Corporate</strong> <strong>Design</strong> <strong>Manual</strong> is intended to help assure the<br />
highest possible degree of recognition and uniformity.<br />
Consistency with regard to the management and the identity of<br />
the brand is supposed to be ensured.<br />
These are indispensable prerequisites for maintaining the<br />
essence of the brand and its values on a national and inter -<br />
national level.<br />

Logo and Claim<br />
Logo<br />
The <strong>HAUTAU</strong> brand has been synonymous of high-quality window<br />
fittings since 1910.<br />
The company's unmistakable black word mark with its typical<br />
yellow background and hexagonal 3-D emblem are the significant<br />
elements of the company logo.<br />
The brand may only be used with the designs presented on<br />
these pages. The logo must never be used in continuous texts.<br />
The brand name must be given a prominent position on every<br />
communication medium as well as every product.<br />

Logo and Claim<br />
Colour Variations and Use<br />
The <strong>HAUTAU</strong> logo is composed of the word mark <strong>HAUTAU</strong><br />
and the 3-D emblem printed on the precisely specified yellow<br />
surface.<br />
The result of this combination is the company's unmistakable<br />
logo.<br />
See below for its size and position on a DIN A4 page and its<br />
permissible colour variations.<br />

Black/white implementation continuous tone<br />
Can be used for all single-colour prints, e.g.<br />

Can be used, for instance, for fax forms or<br />
installation instructions. The line thickness of<br />
the frame must be 0.15 mm with a frame<br />
width of 150 mm.<br />
The line thickness for frame widths between<br />
150 mm and 300 mm is 0.3 mm.<br />

The colour is supposed to underline the brand as well as<br />
distinguish it from other companies.<br />
It has a signalling effect and guarantees immediate recognition.<br />

Fonts<br />
The font also has a significant effect on the company's public<br />
image. Uniform and consistent use facilitates quick and easy<br />
recognition.<br />
The Eurostile font with its font faces is ideal for all required<br />
advertising media.<br />
It meets the main requirement of providing good legibility and,<br />
thereby, ensures that information is conveyed without difficulty.<br />
Any deviations from the fonts specified below must be co -<br />
ordinated with the advertising management. For more infor -<br />
mation, refer to the sample corporate design pages (from p.11)<br />

Two surface formats are usually used for <strong>HAUTAU</strong>'s corporate<br />
design:<br />
portrait and landscape format.<br />
This division of surfaces allows for quick and reliable recognition.<br />
The conciseness of the design ensures that the sender is clearly<br />
identified.<br />
Since it can be applied to any format, the design allows for a<br />
uniform display format. The exception are technical pages, for<br />
instance, as part of catalogues, installation instructions and<br />
price lists.<br />
The current series of advertisements also deviates from the<br />
overall surface layout. As the <strong>HAUTAU</strong> brand has been pro -<br />
moted intensely for a period of more than two years (by series<br />
of advertisements, brochures, posters, etc.), the current series<br />
of advertisements shifts the focus towards the product itself.<br />

Data handling<br />
In order to prevent work steps from being executed twice, or worse, in vain, the following rules for perfect data<br />
generation must be observed:<br />
� All images and graphics contained in a document are imported as *.tiff or *.eps files.<br />
� Fonts contained in *.eps (encapsulated postscript) and *.ai (Adobe Illustrator) files must be converted into curves or<br />
added as separate files.<br />
� Cropped images have been saved as *.eps or *.tiff files into which the clipping paths have been incorporated.<br />
� The images have not been compressed to JPEG files.<br />
� Gray-scale and colour images have a resolution of at least 300 dpi (related 1:1 to the final size).<br />
Any enlargements require an increase in resolution.<br />
� All 4-colour images must be inside the CMYK colour space (no RGB data.)<br />
� Line drawings or vectors have a resolution of at least 800, preferably, 1,200 dpi (related 1:1 to the final size), and<br />
must be converted to bitmap colour mode.<br />
� Photographs taken with a digital camera must be set to the highest possible resolution.<br />
jpeg format - high (low compression)<br />
� Scanned images (scans from newspaper or magazines) cannot be used for offset printing.<br />
� All positioned images and graphics have different file names and are included.<br />
� If possible, use genuine postscript fonts (Adobe Type Manager) rather than TrueType fonts.<br />
� Scale and special colours have been defined correctly.<br />
� No hairlines have been used as they cause problems during exposure.<br />
The line thickness should not be below 0.15 mm.<br />
� No screen widths below 5 per cent as they can no longer be printed.<br />
� No necessary elements or pages have been deleted in order to keep the document as small as possible.<br />
� Truncated elements have been created with 3 mm trimming.<br />
� For verification purposes, print-outs of the data to be processed are provided.
