“Why do we measure”<br />
ammo::lyser<br />
Due to human activities (primarily agriculture, industry and insuffi<br />
cient waste water treatment) many natural waters suffer from a<br />
surplus of nutrients which severely impairs water quality and ecology.<br />
Using the ammo::lyser the essential nutrient ammonium<br />
<strong>can</strong> be measured continuously and accurately down to the low<br />
concentrations encountered in natural waters.<br />
Ammonium is always present in water in equilibrium with ammonia,<br />
the latter being especially toxic to fi sh even at very low<br />
concentrations. The equilibrium between ammonium and ammonia<br />
is pH driven. As the ammo::lyser provides pH together with<br />
ammonium it is used in natural waters as well as in fi sh farms to<br />
detect harmful conditions in real time.<br />
When drinking water is disinfected with chloramines, formed In-<br />
Situ by reaction of chlorine with ammonium, a continuous ammonium<br />
measurement is critical for effi cient control of the disinfection<br />
process - the ammo::lyser is capable to succeed also this<br />
application.<br />
In addition, the ammo::lyser <strong>can</strong> be equipped with a ISE-nitrate<br />
electrode in order to be able to monitor the most common nitrogen<br />
parameters NO3-N and NH4-N simultaneously. <strong>Drinking</strong> water<br />
suppliers (source water quality) and also environmental agencies<br />
have already been using ammo::lysers for years now.<br />
fl u o r : : l y s e r<br />
The fl uor::lyser is a version of the s::<strong>can</strong> ion selective probe that<br />
<strong>can</strong> be used for the online measurement of fl uoride. It is used for<br />
continuous monitoring and online process control by water utilities<br />
that fl uoridate their drinking water.<br />
