24 Rim of the World Unified School District The Rim of the World Unified School District consists of seven school campuses from Lake Gregory to Running Springs. Over the years six of the schools have been granted California Distinguished School status and one was chosen as a California Model School. The Rim School District is the mountain’s largest employer and although budget cuts take a huge bite out of the district’s budget, they still turn out hundreds of graduates each year who are ready to take on the world through pursuing their college education, joining the workforce or joining the armed forces. In the past several years several graduating students have been accepted to our nation’s military academies and those graduates credit their families and their caring, excellent teachers and counselors. With competitive and successful sports programs as well as the award-winning Rim High School Scots band, trophy cases at the school are quickly filling up. In addition to high scores on the California High School Exit exam and with 86 percent of the teachers holding master’s degrees, Rim High School deserves the accolades it’s earned. The school is located in the former Lake Gregory Elementary School; this campus is the headquarters for all the district’s alternative education programs, including independent study and the young parent program. The Mountain High School student population is approximately 125. Alpine Adult School, located on the same campus, serves approximately 120 students 18 and older. The free program allows students to receive a high school diploma, prepare for the GED exam or brush up on basic skills. Mary Putnam Henck Intermediate School (MPH) 730 Rhine Road, Lake Arrowhead Telephone: (909) 336-0360 Principal: Ken Decroo Located in Lake Arrowhead, Mary Putnam Henck Intermediate School opened its doors in 1970 and remains the only intermediate school for students within the school district’s boundaries, from Crestline to Green Valley Lake. The school hosts a student population of over 960 students. Grandview Elementary School 180 Grandview Road, Twin Peaks Telephone: (909) 336-3420 Principal: Cherie Singer With an enrollment of approximately 500 students, Grandview Elementary is an integral part of the Twin Peaks community. In 2001 Grandview was recognized as a California Distinguished School by the State of California. This designation must be earned by a school through the state’s Department of Education, which considers many facets of the school including state and federal test scores. In 1997 LAE was recognized as a California Distinguished School and 1998-1999 saw LAE as the only school in Califorrnia to receive the “Exemplary Reading Program” awarded by the International Reading Association. We started with 12 students in 2006-2007 and grew to 19 by the end of the year. Entering the 2011-2012 school year, we have over 22 students from kindergarten through grade 12. The school’s stated mission is to provide a quality Christian education to prepare its students spiritually and academically to influence the world for Christ. Students participate in many activities including Math Olympics, speech meets, art competitions, science camps and educational field trips. The high school sports program has made the CIF playoffs. The purpose of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Early Education Center is to provide a Christian environment where the whole child can be nurtured. Our program is Christ-centered. Mt Calvary students are given the opportunity to experience intellectual, spiritual, physical, emotional, and social growth.
