Psychological Measurement – Students will demonstrate<br />

knowledge of principles of psychological measurement,<br />

research design, and techniques of data analysis.<br />

• Goal #2: Students will acquire developmentally appropriate<br />

skills in each of these areas of professional psychology:<br />

relationship, Assessment, Intervention, research and<br />

Evaluation, and Professional roles.<br />

Relationship – Students can develop, describe, and<br />

maintain constructive and culturally sensitive clinical<br />

relationships with clients, supervisors, and others with<br />

whom they interact professionally.<br />

Assessment – Students can assess clinically relevant client<br />

characteristics, and use the information gathered to<br />

describe, conceptualize, and diagnose within a sociopolitical<br />

and cultural context.<br />

Intervention – Students can engage in effective,<br />

theory-informed, research-based, culturally appropriate<br />

activities that promote, restore, sustain, or enhance positive<br />

functioning and a sense of well-being in clients through<br />

preventive, developmental, or remedial services.<br />

Research and Evaluation – Students demonstrate the<br />

ability to interpret, design, and implement clinically and<br />

culturally appropriate research.<br />

Professional Roles – Students can articulate the theoretical<br />

and empirical foundations of, and demonstrate the basic<br />

skills of: supervision, management, consultation, and<br />

education in a multicultural professional environment.<br />

• Goal #3: Students will demonstrate the personal and<br />

professional attributes of multi-culturally competent<br />

practitioner-scholars.<br />

Awareness – Students recognize, value, and work<br />

consciously with individual and cultural differences within<br />

intersecting systems.<br />

Professional Conduct and Attitude – Students conduct<br />

themselves in accordance with professional standards, laws,<br />

and ethics.<br />

Scholarship – Students demonstrate their commitment to<br />

the practitioner-scholar model of clinical psychology.<br />

• A resume/vitae.<br />

• A recent and representative sample of academic writing (sample<br />

academic paper). The sample should be no longer than ten pages<br />

and should include the applicant’s name.<br />

• Three letters of recommendation which attest to the appli cant’s<br />

suitability for a doctor of Psychology program are required; two<br />

of the three recommendations will preferably be from former or<br />

current instructors.<br />

Applications will be evaluated by the Psyd Admissions Com mittee.<br />

Applicants deemed most appropriate for admission will be<br />

contacted by the program to schedule an interview.<br />

The Graduate record Examination (GrE) score is not required of<br />

applicants.<br />

The application deadline is the second Monday in december for<br />

the application and all supporting documentation. Applicants are<br />

admitted for the fall quarter only. Late applications will be<br />

considered on a case-by-case basis if space is available.<br />

The following four classes are required prior to enrollment in the<br />

Psyd program. These classes need to have been taken at a regionally<br />

accredited <strong>University</strong> within the past ten years with a grade of C or<br />

better in an undergraduate program or a B- or better in<br />

post-undergraduate work:<br />

Transfer Credit<br />

The maximum number of approved credits that may be transferred<br />

into the Psyd program from master-level courses is 18. Students<br />

requesting course transfer credit must have attained a grade of<br />

“Credit” or a letter grade of B or higher from a regionally accredited<br />

institution. The course(s) in question must have been taken within<br />

the last eight years. A maximum of 30 credits of doctoral-level<br />

course work in clinical/applied psychology may be transferred.<br />

Although transfer credit may reduce the cost of the program, it will<br />

not reduce the overall length of the program.<br />

Transfer credit is not permitted into the linked MA Sport<br />

Psy chology/Psyd programs.<br />

Justice, and must have student malpractice insurance (obtainable<br />

from APAGS) before beginning practicum placement.<br />
