General Information<br />
entire record may adopt a more severe sanction. if the<br />
vice President decides to adopt a more severe sanction,<br />
the vice President shall articulate the reasons for the<br />
more severe sanction in his or her decision. The vice<br />
President normally shall render a decision within five (5)<br />
working days of receipt of the hearing officer’s report.<br />
b. The vice President shall cause notification of his or<br />
her decision to be delivered to the student charged.<br />
The notification shall be delivered in person or sent by<br />
certified mail return receipt requested to the student<br />
charged. Notices addressed to the student at the last<br />
known address on campus records and deposited in the<br />
United states mail, postage prepaid, shall be presumed<br />
to have been received by the student. The report of the<br />
hearing officer shall be made available to the student<br />
charged upon request.<br />
7. appellate Procedures<br />
students who believe they have been wrongfully or excessively<br />
penalized may appeal the vice President of student services<br />
decision. such an appeal must be submitted in writing within 10<br />
working days of the notification of the action and must be directed<br />
to the President. The student must clearly establish sufficient<br />
cause for the appeal to be considered. it is the responsibility of the<br />
student to submit a clear, coherent, written statement providing<br />
the basis for the appeal, including any supporting documentation.<br />
For an appeal to be granted, the student must present:<br />
• A reasonable possibility that the unfavorable decision was<br />
clearly wrong, given the hearing officer’s interpretation of<br />
the evidence or the disciplinary action imposed.<br />
• New evidence (although related to the original evidence) that<br />
was not available for presentation at the original hearing and<br />
which, if true, creates a reasonable probability of a different<br />
decision. a satisfactory explanation must be provided for the<br />
failure at present such evidence at the hearing.<br />
at the discretion of the President any disciplinary action previously<br />
imposed may be suspended pending disposition of the appeal. The<br />
President will make his or her decision within 15 working days<br />
and send written notification of the decision to the student. The<br />
decision is final.<br />
Fire Prevention<br />
in the interest of fire safety, the <strong>University</strong> prohibits any open<br />
flames, lit matches or lighters, or the burning of candles inside any<br />
<strong>University</strong> facility.<br />
Health Insurance<br />
a student health insurance policy is available through sentry<br />
life insurance Company. a brochure is available in the registrar’s<br />
office.<br />
Housing<br />
The <strong>University</strong> has no housing or dormitory facilities.<br />
Libraries<br />
The JFKU libraries system consists of the central Robert M.<br />
Fisher library in Pleasant hill and its branches on the Berkeley<br />
and Campbell campuses. The central law library is located on<br />
the Pleasant hill campus, and also has a branch at Berkeley. The<br />

santa Cruz area Counseling Psychology office contains a small<br />
collection of media and reserve materials for the exclusive use of<br />
program students and faculty.<br />
The collections of the <strong>University</strong>’s libraries number more than<br />
100,000 volumes, 10,000 e-books, 50 online databases, 1,000 print<br />
and 20,000 electronic journals. The libraries collect materials in<br />
print, audio, video and electronic formats. Media viewing and<br />
listening stations are available at each campus.<br />
Currently registered students have web access to the JFKU libraries’<br />
e-resources and may use their student iD card to borrow materials<br />
on site. Document delivery services are available for students and<br />
faculty members at a distance. alumni have borrowing privileges<br />
and may access e-resources on site. Members of the public are<br />
welcome to access resources on site on a fee basis. Please see the<br />
libraries web site for up-to-date information on services, open<br />
hours, circulation policies, etc.<br />
Reference assistance and research instruction are available on site<br />
or via phone, e-mail or online chat. in addition to formal library<br />
research course offerings, course-related workshops are provided<br />
at the request of faculty. Guides to research methods and a tutorial<br />
are also available on the library web site.<br />
The libraries at JFKU are dedicated to supporting learning,<br />
scholarship, professional development and student success. Please<br />

Changes of Name or Address<br />
students are responsible for filing a Change of Name/address<br />
Form in the registrar’s office if name, residence, phone number, or<br />
e-mail address has changed since last registration.<br />
Name change requests must be accompanied by a copy of one of<br />
the following: court order, marriage certificate, dissolution decree,<br />
social security card, or driver’s license.<br />
Smoking<br />
it is <strong>University</strong> policy to respond to the concerns of nonsmokers<br />
who want to be protected against passive smoke as a health hazard.<br />
smoking is not permitted at any time inside <strong>University</strong> facilities or<br />
within 20 feet of any entrance.<br />
Student Government<br />
The purpose of the <strong>University</strong> student Government is to enhance<br />
the quality of student life by making every student’s experience<br />
at JFK <strong>University</strong> pleasant and positive. The overriding goals of<br />
the student Government are to unite students who are registered<br />
at JFK <strong>University</strong> under one <strong>University</strong>-wide government,<br />
to represent the interests and concerns of all students at the<br />
highest level of decision-making, to advocate for various student<br />
interests, and to enrich the reputation of the <strong>University</strong> within the<br />
general, legal and academic communities. The nominal student<br />
association fee charged all students at registration enables the<br />
student government to fund sanctioned student associations,<br />
and support the student store, as well as other <strong>University</strong>-wide<br />
projects. student government members are elected annually and<br />
required to abide by all JFK <strong>University</strong> policies and procedures .<br />
