Student Services<br />
Academic Counseling<br />
students admitted to a degree or certificate program are entitled<br />
to formal academic counseling. Counseling appointments may be<br />
scheduled with a faculty advisor by contacting the appropriate<br />
college. The registrar’s office will assist faculty advisors and is<br />
available to answer questions about transfer credit, residency<br />
requirements, and degree audits.<br />
Academic Support Center<br />
The <strong>John</strong> F. <strong>Kennedy</strong> academic support center’s mission is to<br />
foster academic achievement by providing the necessary support<br />
to ensure undergraduate- and graduate-level students’ success<br />
both at the <strong>University</strong> and in their subsequent professional<br />
careers. Through one-on-one instruction and quarterly<br />
workshops, the center offers students free assistance with study<br />
skills such as reading strategies, time-management tools, critical<br />
inquiry, and research methods as well as with every stage of the<br />
writing process—brainstorming, planning, drafting, revising,<br />
and documenting research. appointments tailored to students’<br />
specific needs are available Monday through Friday—on-site, via<br />
e-mail, by fax, or by phone (note: specific hours vary quarterly).<br />
students can schedule to meet with center staff at the Pleasant<br />
hill, Campbell and Berkeley campuses. The center also offers a<br />
semiannual academic skills review (in fall and spring quarters) and<br />
an intensive one-day interactive workshop designed specifically<br />
for incoming students. Unlike many other higher-education<br />
writing centers that are staffed by students, the center is staffed by<br />
trained writing instructors who have extensive classroom teaching<br />
experience and advanced degrees.<br />
Alumni Association<br />
The alumni association is comprised of all <strong>John</strong> F. <strong>Kennedy</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> graduates. The association provides a lifelong link<br />
between alumni and the <strong>University</strong>. The association’s mission is to<br />
have as many alumni as possible serve as volunteers to foster the<br />
advancement of the <strong>University</strong>. The association’s work is overseen<br />
by a council made up of alumni representing each of the colleges.<br />
Career Center<br />
The JFK <strong>University</strong> career center is a resource for <strong>University</strong><br />
students, staff, alumni, and the public. The center’s resource library<br />
contains information on careers, labor market trends, potential<br />
employers, job-search strategies, and career-specific internet<br />
job resource lists. Use of the career resource center, access to job<br />
listings, and use of computers for conducting a job search on the<br />
internet are free. The center also offers workshops and written<br />
materials geared toward meeting the career-related needs of JFK<br />
<strong>University</strong> students and alumni.<br />
Conflict Resolution<br />
it is the policy of the <strong>University</strong> to encourage students to resolve<br />
misunderstandings or disagreements directly with the faculty<br />
or staff members involved. if such discussions do not produce a<br />
satisfactory outcome for the student, a review process is available.<br />
Procedures for conflict resolution are available in the registrar’s<br />
office.<br />

Continuing Education<br />
<strong>John</strong> F. <strong>Kennedy</strong> <strong>University</strong>’s Continuing Education (CE)<br />
department provides professional development and workforce<br />
training programs of superior quality that connect the <strong>University</strong><br />
with the diverse needs of alumni and surrounding communities.<br />
CE provides courses for mental health professionals and<br />
registered nurses who must keep pace with the rapidly changing<br />
demands within the fields of psychology and health care. Whether<br />
the student is fulfilling pre-licensing or continuing education<br />
requirements, building new skill sets in an area of expertise, or<br />
looking to take on a new career opportunity, CE courses present a<br />
rare blend of practice and theory. CE also offers focused certificate<br />
programs which are designed to increase the student’s knowledge<br />
level in a particular subject matter. all CE courses and programs<br />
are taught by <strong>University</strong>-level instructors who are leading-edge<br />
practitioners and scholars in their respective areas.<br />
The CE department is approved to sponsor courses by the<br />
american Psychological association, the California Board of<br />
Behavioral sciences, the California Board of Registered Nursing,<br />
the National Board of Certified Counselors, the California<br />
association of alcoholism and Drug abuse Counselors, and the<br />
state Bar of California.<br />
Continuing education (CE) courses cannot be applied toward an<br />
academic degree or academic certificate program.<br />

Students with Disabilities<br />
The office of Disability services for students (oDs) supports<br />
students with disabilities through equal access, empowerment,<br />
advocacy, resources, collaboration, and outreach. in addition<br />
to providing services and accommodations that allow students<br />
with disabilities to fully participate in all of the programs offered<br />
on campus as mandated by state and federal laws, oDs works<br />
closely with faculty and staff to provide disability representation,<br />
information, diversity, and awareness throughout the <strong>University</strong><br />
community.<br />
