is recommended to the Commission on teacher Credentialing for<br />
the credential. The credential analyst will also notify the registrar’s<br />
office that credential program completion should be noted on the<br />
student’s transcript.<br />
Recognition of Academic Honors<br />
Undergraduate Students<br />
students who demonstrate exceptionally high academic scores<br />
are eligible for graduation honors. academic honors are posted<br />
to the diploma and final transcript when the student’s degree is<br />
conferred. Graduation honors are based upon all courses applied<br />
toward the bachelor’s degree and are determined according to the<br />
following table:<br />

students who are not eligible for graduation honors may be eligible<br />
for honors in the major instead. only students whose cumulative<br />
GPa is below 3.50 are eligible for honors in the major. to receive<br />
honors in major, the student’s major GPa, which is computed as<br />
the grade-point average of courses in the major program, must be<br />
3.60 or higher.<br />
Graduate Students<br />
Graduate students do not receive honors based on grade-point<br />
average; however, each college selects an outstanding student to<br />
honor at commencement (see below).<br />
Graduation with Honors for the College of Law<br />
students who have completed their degree requirements, have<br />
completed at least 39 of the 56 required numerically graded units<br />
in residence at the College of law, and who have taken no more<br />
than 17 terms (including summers) to complete their degree<br />
requirements are eligible for graduation with honors as follows:<br />

Commencement Ceremony<br />
The ceremonial recognition of graduation is a very special<br />
occasion at the <strong>University</strong>. Graduating students and prospective<br />
graduates who meet the requirements listed in the policies<br />
below are encouraged to participate in this June event. students<br />
who meet the following criteria are eligible to participate in<br />
the commencement ceremony:<br />
• Prior fall and winter graduates,<br />
• Students who are completing all requirements as of<br />
spring quarter or semester,<br />
• Students who have six or fewer quarter or four semester<br />
units to complete in summer.<br />

students must also fulfill the master’s/doctoral examination<br />
or thesis/master’s/doctoral dissertation project requirements if<br />
relevant to their degree programs. students in programs requiring<br />
a master’s examination must either have passed the exam or be<br />
scheduled to take it during summer quarter. Thesis and doctoral<br />
dissertation students must have the rough draft of the thesis or<br />
dissertation project approved by May 15.<br />
Awards at the Commencement Ceremony<br />
Outstanding Student Award<br />
at the request of the president of the <strong>University</strong>, each college<br />
selects a student to honor at commencement who best exemplifies<br />
academic excellence, service to their college or the <strong>University</strong>, and<br />
service to the community. Due to the high regard in which they are<br />
held, these awards are the only awards presented to students at the<br />
commencement ceremony.<br />
The Founding President Harry L. Morrison<br />
Distinguished Teaching Award<br />
a citation and monetary gift is given to honor the memory of<br />
Dr. Morrison, founding president of the <strong>University</strong>. The award<br />
recognizes special dedication to the <strong>University</strong> and its students and<br />
is made to the faculty member who best exemplifies excellence in<br />
teaching and creativity in the classroom as well as in program and<br />
curriculum development and contribution to the enhancement<br />
and development of the faculty member’s field of study.<br />
Transcripts<br />
students may obtain <strong>John</strong> F. <strong>Kennedy</strong> <strong>University</strong> official transcripts<br />
by providing a written request that gives name, student iD<br />
number or social security number, current address, major, dates<br />
of enrollment, degrees/certificates awarded, name on transcript (if<br />
different from current name), address to which the transcripts are<br />
to be sent, and any special instructions (e.g., holding for current<br />
grades or degree posting). transcript Request Forms are available<br />
in the registrar’s office in Pleasant hill, student services office in<br />
Campbell, and online. all transcript requests must be signed and<br />
accompanied by a current fee for each transcript. Rush transcripts<br />
will be sent within one working day following receipt of request<br />
for the current rush transcript fee. Rush processing cannot be<br />
guaranteed during registration periods.<br />
a transcript is issued only if all financial obligations to the<br />
<strong>University</strong> have been paid in full. Unofficial transcripts will not be<br />
issued to students. transcripts are never faxed.<br />
Transferability of JFK <strong>University</strong> Courses<br />
Each institution has its own policies for transfer credit and students<br />
are advised to contact the receiving institution to determine<br />
transferability of JFKU coursework. JFKU courses taken credit/no<br />
credit may not be accepted by other institutions.<br />
Unit Credit<br />
Units described throughout this catalog, excluding law, are quarter<br />
units (credits). The <strong>University</strong> subscribes to the national standard<br />
for student workload, which is a minimum of 500 seat minutes per<br />
quarter unit of credit.<br />
The College of law is on the semester system. one and one-half<br />
(1.5) quarter units equal one semester unit (credit).<br />
