General Information<br />
General-Education Breadth<br />
This group of requirements applies to all baccalaureate students<br />
except those in the BFa program. BFa students should consult<br />
the BFa program requirements located within the College of<br />
Undergraduate studies.<br />
all requirements for lower- and upper-division general-education<br />
breadth must be satisfactorily completed. Upper-division<br />
requirements are indicated in the Ba and the Bs program<br />
descriptions in the College of Undergraduate studies section<br />
of the catalog.<br />
Courses taken to fulfill the general-education breadth requirements<br />
cannot be used to satisfy a requirement of the major, core, or track.<br />
Consult the registrar’s office for appropriate use of any courses in<br />
lower- and upper-division general-education breadth areas.<br />
students must complete 45 units in lower-division generaleducation<br />
breadth. some upper-division courses offered by the<br />
College of Undergraduate studies may be applied to the lowerdivision<br />
general-education breadth requirements. The list of<br />
approved courses is available from the College of Undergraduate<br />
studies section and the registrar’s office.<br />

applicants to JFKU Ba and Bs degree programs will be considered<br />
to have fulfilled all lower-division general-education breadth<br />
requirements provided either of the following is true:<br />
• Applicant has a BA or BS degree from a regionally accredited<br />
college or <strong>University</strong> (or the equivalent) or<br />
• Applicant has a California AA or AS degree.<br />
applicants who have other degree titles—or who are applying to<br />
other degree titles—will not receive a blanket waiver for lowerdivision<br />
general-education breadth. These students are eligible<br />
to apply to JFKU baccalaureate programs, but their credits will<br />
be transferred on a course-by-course basis. after transfer credit<br />
is awarded, these applicants must satisfy all remaining generaleducation<br />
breadth requirements.<br />
lower-division requirements are outlined below:<br />
Composition. Nine units of composition. Up to three of those<br />
nine units may be satisfied with a critical thinking course.<br />
Mathematics. Three units, one college-level mathematics course.<br />
Natural Science. Nine units chosen from courses in the physical<br />
and life sciences.<br />

Certificates<br />
at least 36 of the last 45 units must be completed in residence<br />
(i.e., once 135 units have been accumulated, only nine<br />
additional units may be transferred into a degree program).<br />
Units transferred from another institution or earned through<br />
ClEP, aP, Dsst, or CBa do not fulfill residency requirements.<br />
The final course and the thesis, project, or master’s examination<br />
must be completed in residence. at least 70 percent of the work<br />
required for a master’s degree must be completed in residence at<br />
the <strong>University</strong>. some programs may require a residency greater<br />
than 70 percent. Refer to the program-specific sections of the<br />
catalog for the number of units required in residence at the<br />
<strong>University</strong>. transfer credit is not permitted into the linked Ma<br />
sport Psychology/PsyD programs.<br />
once admitted to a doctoral program, all requirements must be<br />
completed in residence. Refer to the program-specific sections<br />
of the catalog for the number of prior units which might be<br />
considered for transfer. transfer credit is not permitted into<br />

Completion of the final two semesters of law study in residence<br />
at <strong>John</strong> F. <strong>Kennedy</strong> <strong>University</strong> College of law.<br />
students enrolled in a certificate program must complete all<br />
courses in residence.<br />
an overall grade-point average of<br />
at least 2.0 must be achieved in all<br />
coursework including transfer work<br />
prior to fall 2006.<br />
a minimum grade of C is required<br />
for each course applied to a master’s<br />
degree. an overall grade-point average<br />
of at least 3.0 must be achieved in all<br />
work for the declared master’s degree.<br />
a minimum grade of B- is required<br />
for each course applied to the doctoral<br />
degree. an overall grade-point average<br />
of at least 3.0 must be achieved in all<br />
work for the declared doctoral degree.<br />
achievement of a cumulative gradepoint<br />
average of 70.0 or higher in<br />
all numerically graded courses and<br />
fulfillment of all conditions imposed by<br />
