Program learning outcomes<br />

• Legal Research. Students will demonstrate effective use of the<br />

tools of legal research, both in traditional and online for mats, be<br />

able to create an effective research plan, and work through the<br />

issue to a sound understanding of the applicable legal doctrine.<br />

• Communication. Students will be able to communicate in<br />

written forms both to members of the profession and to the lay<br />

community in a manner that is clear, logical, well-organized and<br />

persuasive, and will be able to verbally communicate legal<br />

positions and viewpoints in an articulate manner.<br />

• Fundamental Lawyering Skills. Students will develop compe -<br />

tency in the skills associated with practicing law such as client<br />

interviewing, problem solving, counseling, drafting legal<br />

documents, negotiation, advocacy in a variety of settings, and<br />

non-adversarial dispute resolution practices.<br />

• Legal Analysis. Students will be able to assess complex legal<br />

problems by identifying legal issues and critical facts, apply astute<br />

legal reasoning skills, and assess the potential options, solutions,<br />

and strategies.<br />

• Knowledge of Legal Doctrine. Students will demonstrate<br />

competency in the fundamental legal doctrine covered on the<br />

California Bar Examination, such as Contracts, Torts, Crimi nal<br />

Law, Real Property, Constitutional Law, Civil Procedure, <strong>Business</strong><br />

Associations, Community Property, Professional Responsibility,<br />

Criminal Procedure, Evidence, and Remedies as well as in other<br />

areas deemed important in the general practice of law.<br />

• Professional Ethics. Students will demonstrate competency in<br />

understanding the standards of professional responsibility<br />

required of members of the legal profession, be able to recog nize<br />

ethical dilemmas and resolve them appropriately, and recognize<br />

the moral dilemmas often faced in the practice of law.<br />

• Professional Values. Students will demonstrate an awareness of<br />

the value of community service and the role of law in promoting<br />

social justice and will recognize the value of diver sity within the<br />

legal profession and society.<br />

• Critical Thinking. Students will have the ability to identify and<br />

understand the legal and social policy implications of various<br />

legal conflicts and will have an understanding of how the law can<br />

serve to either promote or diminish justice, individual dignity,<br />

equal opportunity, or the sanctity of nature.<br />

accreditation<br />

<strong>John</strong> F. <strong>Kennedy</strong> <strong>University</strong> is accredited by the Western Asso -<br />

ciation of Schools and Colleges. The College of Law is accredited<br />

by The Committee of Bar Examiners of the State Bar of Califor nia.<br />

This accreditation permits graduates from JFKU College of Law to<br />

take the California Bar Examination upon graduation.<br />

admission requirements<br />

The application deadline for admission is July 1. The deadline for<br />

transferring or visiting students is March 1.<br />

Applicants are encouraged to apply before the deadlines to take<br />

advantage of a rolling admissions policy. As part of the commitment<br />

to make law school a feasible reality, admissions decisions for<br />
