<strong>John</strong> F. <strong>Kennedy</strong> <strong>University</strong> College oF law offers both a four-year,<br />
full-time program and a three-year, part-time program leading to the Juris Doctor. The<br />
law program is flexibly designed both for people who want to study law while maintaining<br />
family, work, or other outside responsibilities and those able to devote themselves to fulltime<br />
study. The College of Law is accredited by The Committee of Bar Examiners of the<br />
State Bar of California.<br />
The College of Law is committed to providing the highest quality legal education in an<br />
environment that encourages mutual support rather than competition. Students receive<br />
a thorough grounding in both the theoretical and practical skills necessary to become<br />
effective attorneys. The curriculum emphasizes analytical and advocacy skills, combined<br />
with multiple clinical opportuni ties. This multi-modal approach includes a focus on law<br />
in its wider political, social, and economic contexts. The College believes that law can be<br />
a tool for social change and encourages its students to examine and share their<br />
experiences to reach a more comprehensive understanding of social justice.<br />
JFKU College of Law not only prepares individuals to success fully practice law, but also<br />
to become leaders in their communi ties. To achieve this, the College of Law offers:<br />
• World-class faculty. A faculty consisting of full-time professors and working<br />
professionals with outstanding records as lawyers and judges, nationally and<br />
internationally, who bring the most up-to-date professional perspectives to the<br />
classroom.<br />
• Exceptional support. Day and evening classes are available to help students balance<br />
law school with other professional and personal responsibilities. A wide range of<br />
academic support services are offered, including workshops and teaching ses sions to<br />
assist students in developing skills essential to success on the Bar Exam and in legal<br />
practice as well as in law school itself.<br />
• Practical experience/Clinical programs. Students have the opportunity to gain realworld<br />
legal experience either in the Elder Law Clinic located on the Pleasant Hill<br />
campus, the Housing Advocacy and Criminal Defender Clinics located at the Berkeley<br />
campus, or through placements in law offices, government agencies, and the courts.<br />
These experiences teach practical legal skills, expose students to a valuable professional<br />
network, and provide a chance to engage in valuable public interest work. Students<br />
work under the supervision of core faculty or practi tioners in these specialties.
