integral religion Courses<br />

iTh 5400 integral Buddhism 2<br />

This course will engage a deep inquiry into Buddhism framed by the<br />

integral approach. Important lineages will be covered. Students will<br />

learn about and analyze the premodern, modern, and postmodern<br />

practices of the religion and explore its rele vance in different regions<br />

of the world today.<br />

iTh 5401 integral Christianity 2<br />

This course will examine Christianity using the integral approach.<br />

Important denominations will be covered including the pre modern,<br />

modern, and postmodern expressions of the religion in various<br />

regions across the world. Students will learn both theo retically and<br />

practically these various expressions through experi ential exercises<br />

and will learn how an integral Christianity might serve to address<br />

some of the global issues present in both the global north and South<br />

today.<br />

iTh 5402 integral Kabbalah 2<br />

This course will explore the mystical path of Kabbalah using the<br />

integral approach. Important lineage holders, leaders, and theorists<br />

will be covered. The course will also cover some of the premodern,<br />

modern, and postmodern expressions of the Kab balah. Students will<br />

investigate the tradition through first-, second-, and third-person<br />

methods and inquiry.<br />

iTh 5450 non-duality 2<br />

Students will learn about the ways non-duality has been experi enced<br />

and explained in different philosophical, spiritual, and scientific<br />

disciplines. Students will examine both the theories and practices of<br />

these traditions and will explore how to apply this to their<br />

professional and personal lives.<br />

iTh 5451 Vision-logic 2<br />

drawing upon certain theorists who have studied the higher stages<br />

of cognitive development such as Piaget, Aurobindo, and Kegan,<br />

students will focus on the emergence of the stage of cognition termed<br />

vision-logic. Through experiential, reflective, and cognitive practices,<br />

students will learn about the nuance of this particular stage of<br />

cognitive development, and synthesize this knowledge in application.<br />

iTh 5452 Shadow 2<br />

This course will examine the critical contributions about the shadow<br />

aspects of the psyche, drawing on the work of key psychologists. This<br />

will be examined in context to integral theory and integral life<br />

practice, and students will learn both the theory and practice for<br />

working with the shadow.<br />

iTh 5453 evolutionary Theory 2<br />

This course will explore theories on evolution presented by different<br />

structures of awareness including premodern folk theories,<br />

traditional or religious theories, conventional modern or scientific<br />

theories, postmodern alternative theories, and integral theories. Key<br />

theorists from each will be covered.<br />

iTh 5454 love and eros 2<br />

This course is an inquiry into the Heart as a path of spiritual<br />

development. Students will inquire into the nature of love and Eros,<br />

and look deeply into their yearning for the fullness of being. Emphasis<br />

will be placed one the study and practice of the 2nd person of Spirit,<br />

where autonomy and communion, separation and merging, and<br />

masculine and feminine play in relationship to others and to the divine.<br />

iTh 5455 integral Metatheory 2<br />

This course provides students with an overall introduction to integral<br />

metastudies. It is integrative in that it seeks to find the convergences<br />

and divergences between past and current theories, metatheories<br />

and other sources of cultural knowledge. Students will explore a<br />

framework for the accommodation of metatheories such as Ken<br />

Wilber’s AQAL, Bill Torbert’s developmental Action Inquiry and<br />

Lewis’ multiparadigm inquiry.<br />

iTh 5610 integral final Project 1–4<br />

In this course, students will prepare their final integrative paper and<br />

presentation which include personal statement, psychological and<br />

spiritual theory, and application of coursework within a professional<br />

and social context.<br />

iTh 5900 Topics in integral Theory 1–3<br />

Topics vary. Students may repeat this course for credit with a change<br />

in topic.<br />

iTh 5995 independent Study in integral Theory 1-3<br />

To be arranged with consent of instructor and approval of the<br />

Program chair and dean. May be repeated for credit with a change<br />

Museum Studies [MuS] Courses<br />

These courses are offered on the Berkeley campus.<br />

MuS 5003 issues in Museums i:<br />

history and Theory 4.5<br />

What is a museum? What is its role in society? How has the<br />

institution evolved since its beginnings? In this course, students<br />

analyze, debate, and evaluate current theories of the museum as a<br />

social institution. Two in-depth writing assignments and site visits<br />

encourage students to look closely at the museum, its ethical<br />

responsibilities, and its public profile.<br />

MuS 5004 issues in Museums ii:<br />

finance and administration 4.5<br />

review of basic nonprofit management in museums. discussion and<br />

assignments to cover management, governance, fundraising,<br />

personnel, museum standards, and finance.<br />

MuS 5005 issues in Museums iii:<br />

Planning and development 4.5<br />

Building on the theoretical and philosophical framework for<br />

museum work, students propose a plan for a new museum and<br />

support it with written and oral presentations.<br />
