iTh 5101 integral research 3<br />

In this course, students learn basic principles of qualitative and<br />

quantitative research methodology and clarify their goals regard ing<br />

a research topic. Students will also formulate research ques tions and<br />

begin a literature review of books and articles relevant to their topic.<br />

Students will complete a small-scale project using six different<br />

methodologies and write a final research paper.<br />

Core integral Courses<br />

iTh 5210 Subtle energy Systems 3<br />

This course provides students with an overview of the various<br />

models of subtle energy. The various esoteric traditions are examined<br />

as well as current research.<br />

iTh 5211 Perspectives on the Body 3<br />

This course examines the many ways the body has been under stood<br />

historically, philosophically, experientially, and physically. Students<br />

will be given opportunities to read, discuss, and analyze classical and<br />

contemporary views of the body, including those found in works of<br />

art, religion, and literature as well as work on language, metaphors,<br />

body image and sexuality, and embodiment practices. The work of<br />

somatic theorists such as reich, Lowen, and Keleman will also be<br />

introduced as well as common body work modalities.<br />

iTh 5212 ecological Medicine 2<br />

This course provides students with the opportunity to make<br />

connections between their own health and the health of the natural<br />

environment around them. Issues of sustainability and<br />

environmental toxicity will be covered.<br />

iTh 5213 Cognitive Science 3<br />

This course examines the recent research about the brain and<br />

behavior coming from cognitive science as well as autopoiesis.<br />

Particular focus will be placed on the embodied mind and how<br />

cognitive research can benefit from phenomenological inquiry.<br />

iTh 5214 intersubjectivity 3<br />

This course explores a number of perspectives on the space between<br />

people. Theories of object relations, postmodernism, and infant<br />

development will be covered. Students will use various exercises to<br />

explore their own lived experience of intersubjectiv ity.<br />

iTh 5215 Cultural development 3<br />

This course explores the evolution of consciousness in culture<br />

through a seven-stage journey drawing on Gebser’s research. The<br />

relationship between individual and cultural development will be<br />

highlighted.<br />

iTh 5216 Social Systems 2<br />

This course exposes students to systems theory and its relevance to<br />

society. Luhman’s work on systems and autopoiesis is used to explore<br />

the role of communication within social systems.<br />

iTh 5217 neuro-religion 2<br />

This course explores the neurological correlates of meditative states,<br />

investigating the research and theories relating to this.<br />

iTh 5218 ethics and Compassion 2<br />

This course will connect existential perspectives and religious<br />

understandings in a personal and meaningful way for students using<br />

various practices and small-group exercises.<br />

iTh 5219 emergence 3<br />

This course examines the role of living systems in the phenom ena of<br />

emergence. It will draw on the systems sciences of com plexity and<br />

chaos as well as evolutionary theory. Whitehead’s philosophy will<br />

serve as a foundation for exploring these topics.<br />

iTh 5300 integral ecology 2<br />

This course will focus study on the field of ecology using the integral<br />

model to make sense of the main perspectives and approaches to<br />

ecology as well as how to work with differences in values and<br />

worldviews on ecological systems.<br />

iTh 5301 integral <strong>Business</strong> 2<br />

In this course, students will learn about applying an integral approach<br />

to business with particular focus on both small-scale<br />

entrepreneurship as well as the global economic context for<br />

multinational business. Students will learn how to use quadrants,<br />

lines, and levels of integral theory in leadership development,<br />

capacity building, and conscious communication in a business<br />

context. dr. William Torbert and dr. Cook-Greuter’s work on<br />

self-development and organizational development will be a key part<br />

of this course curriculum.<br />

iTh 5302 integral art 2<br />

In this course, students will explore how the consciousness of the<br />

artist gives rise to the artwork itself and will examine the work of<br />

certain artists from different stages of consciousness and cultural<br />

contexts.<br />

iTh 5303 integral Politics 2<br />

This course investigates the complex realm of politics using an<br />

integral approach, particularly focusing on the many dimensions of<br />

the political left and right, and what a transcendent synthesis of these<br />

might become. In this course, students will look at both healthy and<br />

unhealthy expressions of power from different levels of awareness,<br />

explore the issue of corruption, and learn about the emergence of<br />

good governance. Other aspects to be explored here is how to use<br />

skillful means for communicating and working with multiple<br />

worldviews present in any population and how to integrate<br />

spirituality into the field of politics.<br />

This course will look at various modalities of medicine and health<br />

from the perspectives of Ken Wilber’s integral all-quadrants/all-levels<br />

(AQAL) model.<br />

This course will look at various scientific principles from the<br />

perspectives of Ken Wilber’s integral all-quadrants/all-levels (AQAL)<br />
