Globalized business practices, dispersed organizations, and<br />

outsourcing have created a global work environment where<br />

managers and team members often work 24/7. In light of current<br />

workplace issues, this course critically discusses human resource<br />

management trends, analyzes workforce engagement principles,<br />

explores the pros and cons of a dispersed work environment,<br />

analyzes strategies for managing internal and external talent, and<br />

develops work-life balance principles. It also examines the<br />

challenges a global workforce poses for human resource practices,<br />

discusses the leadership and managerial skills needed to successfully<br />

function in a geographically dispersed and culturally diverse<br />

environment. With entrepreneurship, social responsibility, and<br />

organizational integrity as guiding principles, this course critically<br />

explores approaches to business that enable strategic innovation<br />

through the use of sustainable business principles, the creation of a<br />

clear business model and plan, the development of collaborative<br />

work relationships with employees and other business<br />

organizations, and the creation of a virtual knowledge sharing and<br />

In a highly competitive business environment, change is inevita ble.<br />

Organizational leaders and staffs deal with it daily, often without<br />

understanding its nature, how it operates, and how its power can be<br />

harnessed to unleash innovation to create the organization’s future.<br />

This course critically examines the nature of change and how it can<br />

be strategically fostered and managed in complex organizations. It<br />

also explores the types of organizational cultures that support<br />

successful change-management processes and how change-agent<br />

leaders can effectively address resistance and resolve conflict.<br />

emotionally intelligent Work environments 3<br />

Organizational culture is as strategic to success as identified goals<br />

and qualified human resources. Grounded in emotional intelligence<br />

principles, this course critically discusses how organizational beliefs,<br />

values, traditions, and role models shape organizational policies and<br />

politics, managerial practices, hiring practices, succession plan ning<br />

efforts, and employee reward systems, as well as how they impact<br />

organizational productivity, employee motivation, and job<br />

satisfaction. Based upon these discussions, this course presents how<br />

Team development 3<br />

Communication gives form to organizations. In an<br />

information-driven business climate, organizations are complex<br />

systems of business partnerships, and a web of networked<br />

employees and teams linked via electronic informa tion and<br />

communication systems. This course examines the ways companies<br />

self-organize in a socio-technical work environment, the nature of<br />

organizational social networking in a digital age, and the<br />

charac teristics of effective interpersonal communication and<br />

relation ship building in teams. Particular attention is given to the<br />

nature of workplace information flow and how to design strategic<br />

information and communication systems that enable knowledge<br />

sharing and collaboration.<br />

This course provides students the opportunity to explore specific<br />

job functions by interning at companies and observing people<br />

performing those jobs. Students may experience administrative,<br />

operations, marketing, sales, finance, technology, and other<br />

programs in various capacities.<br />

This course provides an opportunity for current business and<br />

organizational trends and issues to be explored. It may be repeated<br />

This course examines the nature and structure of paradigms and<br />

paradigm shifts in scientific, psychological, social, and metaphysi cal<br />

thinking, and emphasizes living systems theory and integral and<br />

holistic philosophies as they relate to ecology, health, crea tivity, and<br />

conflict resolution. Co-requisite: COr 3145.<br />

CnS 5015 Body Consciousness/Body Wisdom 2<br />

This experiential course gives students the opportunity to explore<br />

their own body sensations, and in so doing, to make contact with its<br />

wisdom and power. We explore various areas and systems of the<br />

body, listening to their messages about what makes us feel supported,<br />

trusting, and strong; what makes us feel alive and passionate; what<br />

is right for us; what makes us feel satisfied; what do we care for and<br />

what do we want to give; what are our boundaries and what do we<br />

want to express; and what makes us feel protected and safe. Along<br />

the way, we consider messages that signal stress, anxiety, hunger, fear,<br />
