a&C 5988 Transformative arts: final Project a 2<br />

The project is the required first of a two-part sequence to com plete<br />

the MA in Transformative Arts. It consists of individual meetings<br />

with a faculty advisor that initiates the final paper and completes the<br />

student’s experience in the program. A final review of the students’<br />

artwork and a first draft of the final paper is also required. Final<br />

Project A supports the student’s integration and resolution of the<br />

issues of personal inquiry, creative self-expres sion, community<br />

involvement and transformation as integral aspects of the creative<br />

journey.<br />

a&C 5989 Transformative arts: final Project B 2<br />

This project is the second part of a two-quarter sequence to complete<br />

the MA in Transformative Arts. Final Project B con sists of continued<br />

individual meetings with a faculty advisor to finish the final paper<br />

which completes the student’s experience in the program. This<br />

portion focuses on the finalization and approval by faculty review<br />

committee of the final paper. It is also a period in which issues of<br />

career and personal growth are consid ered deeply.<br />

BuS 5000 Management Communications 3<br />

Analyzes business needs for managerial communication including<br />

meetings, conferences, and general information dissemination and<br />

reporting and determines appropriate methods. Course covers<br />

business proposals, reports, and executive summaries and provides<br />

practice in oral presentation.<br />

BuS 5008 operations and Supply Chain<br />

Management 3<br />

This course examines operations management, the function of<br />

producing goods and services in a quality and efficient manner. In<br />

light of this business functional area, it critically discusses supply<br />

chain management issues regarding procurement and logistics<br />

management, and the planning and management of an<br />

organization’s coordination with suppliers. Skills in quantitative<br />

analytical methods are developed, including business statistics.<br />

BuS 5020 financial Management 3<br />

This course discusses the financial function of the contemporary<br />

business enterprise and the challenge of managing finances ethically<br />

and responsibly. It critically examines theories of financial<br />

man agement including cost of capital, financial leverage, capital<br />

structure, dividend policy, long-term capital, working capital, and<br />

financial analysis and planning. Prerequisite: BUS 3020 or BUS 5096.<br />

Management 3<br />

Focused on human resource management and employee training<br />

and development, this course critically examines how organizations<br />

achieve and sustain a competitive advantage through their human<br />

capital. Theoretical and practical issues of effectively attracting,<br />

utilizing, retaining, and developing talent are explored with<br />

emphasis on system’s thinking, cultural sensitivity in a global<br />

workplace, and empowering leadership that fosters collaboration<br />

and innovation. Topics include human resource planning, training,<br />

recruitment, staffing, regulations, job design, performance<br />

appraisals, compensation, recognition, conflict, gender and diversity<br />

issues, work attitudes, motivation, and managing globally.<br />

BuS 5030 Power, leadership, and integrity 3<br />

Understanding organizational power and exemplifying profes sional<br />

integrity are fundamental to effective leadership. Critical to<br />

organizational success are leaders who inspire confidence, evoke<br />

loyalty, empower, motivate, and use resources effectively and<br />

efficiently. This course analyzes the characteristics and dynamics of<br />

organiza tional power and politics and explores the ethical use of<br />

power by leaders when managing employees, creating alliances,<br />

making complex decisions, delegating responsibilities, and making<br />

changes. Particular attention is given to managing and resolving<br />

conflict.<br />

BuS 5035 Visionary leadership and Sustainability 3<br />

Great leaders possess a variety of competencies. Organizational<br />

effectiveness is grounded in professionals who have vision,<br />

continuously learn, courageously take risks, are decisive and ethical,<br />

understand and care about their coworkers, enable work force<br />

creativity, and empower employees to take ownership of their jobs.<br />

In light of business’ strategic use of the Internet and their desire to<br />

compete in global markets, this course analytically examines<br />

marketing strategies, objectives, and policies. discussion topics<br />

include managing sales and marketing organizations, market<br />

research and site location, advertising and promotion, analysis of<br />

buying processes of consumer and industrial markets, Internet<br />

marketing and customer relationship management.<br />

BuS 5052 Managerial economics 3<br />

This course critically examines economic theory—both<br />

microeconomics and macroeconomics—in light of current business<br />

challenges, global issues, and environmental concerns. It analyzes<br />

the impact of domestic and interna tional economic policies and<br />

major issues on business econom ics. discussion topics include the<br />

effects of monetary policy, fiscal policy and taxation, forces of supply<br />

and demand, theories of cost and production, analysis of consumer<br />

behavior, and sustainable economic approaches and business<br />

practices. In addition, this course evaluates the response of markets<br />

to the forces of supply and demand by using different quantitative<br />

and qualitative measures.<br />
