organizational behavior concepts, traditional and emerging<br />

subjects are studied in an interactive environment that encour ages<br />

critical inquiry and maximizes understanding. The program<br />

accommodates both experienced business professionals and<br />

individuals who have acquired significant organizational and<br />

administrative experience in a non-business setting.<br />

The MBA program provides students with a solid understanding<br />

of individual, group, and organizational behavior; financial analysis<br />

and management; quantitative decision making and other<br />

analytical skills; practical ethics in the business arena; strategic<br />

planning and implementation; marketing theory and practices; the<br />

management of change; the impact of technology; and international<br />

issues and the expanding global economy.<br />

Specializations<br />

While students master a core of knowledge in the MBA program,<br />

they also explore their particular interests in one of the following<br />

areas of specialization: Leadership, Strategic Management,<br />

Program Management, or an individually planned specialization.<br />

Individually planned specializations give students a chance to<br />

create a customized specialization which would help in their career<br />

path. Individually planned specializations may be a<br />

cross-disciplinary concentration integrating more than one school.<br />

College of Professional Studies<br />

In addition to the <strong>University</strong>’s requirements, applicants to the MBA<br />

program must possess a bachelor’s degree from an institution<br />

whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher<br />

education Accreditation (CHEA).<br />

Applicants must submit a JFK <strong>University</strong> application along with a<br />

statement of purpose that includes a discussion of 1) personal<br />

qualities and professional experiences that qualify one to<br />

participate in an MBA program, 2) why JFKU’s MBA<br />

Program—philosophy, content and instructional style— is the best<br />

MBA program for one’s career path, 3) how JFKU’s MBA degree<br />

will enable one to grow as a person and professional, 4) what<br />

potential career opportunities this degree could open up, and 5)<br />

one’s commitment to studying for an MBA at this time. The<br />

statement of purpose should be at least three double-spaced,<br />

typewritten pages.<br />

Besides providing vital professional background and academic<br />

study intentions, the statement of purpose serves as an initial<br />

opportunity to assess an applicant’s graduate level writing and<br />

analysis skills. Upon admission or within the first three quarters of<br />

the MBA program after taking several courses, if a student’s writing<br />

skill level is deemed to need improvement, a student may be<br />

required by the Program Chair to take BUS 5000 Management<br />

Communications in addition to the required 48 units.<br />

Finally, applicants must submit a resume of work experience<br />

detailing professional background. While the Graduate<br />

Management Admissions Test (GMAT) is usually not required for<br />

admission, the school may require the applicant to take the exam<br />

in some cases.<br />
