<strong>of</strong> a reception for Houston area alumni <strong>at</strong><br />

the Bentw<strong>at</strong>er Yacht and Country Club in<br />

September. The reception <strong>at</strong>tracted more<br />

Class News<br />

Jane Cash Hankins (BSE/Educ<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

’57) Mrs. Hankins lives in Pine Bluff. She<br />

would love to hear from some <strong>of</strong> her<br />

former classm<strong>at</strong>es and sorority sisters.<br />

Ginger Johnson (BSE/M<strong>at</strong>h ’72)<br />

Mrs. Johnson lives in Searcy, where she<br />

is the principal <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Arkansas</strong> Virtual<br />

School which serves students K-8 from<br />

more than 60 districts.<br />

Lt. Col. Robert K. Doss (BS/Agriculture<br />

’73) Lt. Col. Doss lives in Jackson,<br />

TN. He retired on December 30 from the<br />

Jackson-Madison County School System<br />

where he was the AFJROTC/TN-93 Senior<br />

Aerospace Science Instructor. His retirement<br />

completed 35 years in the United<br />

St<strong>at</strong>es Air Force uniform. He currently has<br />

no plans, but will be looking for a position<br />

where he can use his Personal Management<br />

master’s degree.<br />

Melody Peacock Barnett (BA/History<br />

& Social Studies ’89) Mrs. Barnett<br />

lives in Dermott. She and was recently<br />

honored (along with Tom and Dick Smothers)<br />

as one <strong>of</strong> the “ 00 Distinguished<br />

Gradu<strong>at</strong>es in 00 Years” <strong>at</strong> her high<br />

school’s centennial celebr<strong>at</strong>ion in Redondo<br />

Beach, CA. In June, she completed two<br />

years as President <strong>of</strong> the UALR Bowen<br />

School <strong>of</strong> Law Alumni Associ<strong>at</strong>ion. She<br />

currently serves as chair <strong>of</strong> two <strong>Arkansas</strong><br />

Bar Associ<strong>at</strong>ion Sections: the Government<br />

Practice Section and the Juvenile<br />

Justice and Child Welfare Section. She is<br />

employed by the <strong>Arkansas</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Corrections<br />

as an <strong>at</strong>torney in the Compliance<br />

Division. Mrs. Barnett does volunteer<br />

work for Voices for Children Left Behind, a<br />

group th<strong>at</strong> assists children <strong>of</strong> prisoners and<br />

their caregivers.<br />

Sandi Perraudin-Veazey (BS/Business<br />

Administr<strong>at</strong>ion ’91) Ms. Perraudin-<br />

Veazey has been living in the Houston, TX,<br />

area since the fall <strong>of</strong> 2005. She was living<br />

in New Orleans when hurricane K<strong>at</strong>rina hit<br />

and unfortun<strong>at</strong>ely lost everything.<br />

Alicia Thompson (BA/Elementary<br />

Educ<strong>at</strong>ion ’96) Since leaving UAM, Ms.<br />

Thompson has earned her high school<br />

m<strong>at</strong>h certific<strong>at</strong>ion. She taught m<strong>at</strong>h as<br />

well as other subjects <strong>at</strong> her alma m<strong>at</strong>er,<br />

Alread High School, until it closed in 2006.<br />

She now lives in Clinton with her threeyear-old<br />

son and is a geometry teacher <strong>at</strong><br />

Clinton High School.<br />

Michelle Pounds (BS/Psychology<br />

’99) Ms. Pounds and her husband have<br />

recently moved to Fordyce.<br />

Charlotte A. Phillips (BS/Computer<br />

Inform<strong>at</strong>ion Systems ’04) Mrs.<br />

Phillips is currently working towards a<br />

master’s degree in Business and Technology<br />

Management and plans to enroll in<br />

the iTeachTexas altern<strong>at</strong>ive certific<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

program. She is an Account Manager with<br />

Drive Financial Services in Dallas, TX.<br />

Rishers Host Houston Area<br />

Alumni Reception<br />

Chris Simpson (BS/Computer Inform<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

Systems ’05) Before gradu<strong>at</strong>ion,<br />

Mr. Simpson worked <strong>at</strong> the McGehee<br />

Bank as the Network Administr<strong>at</strong>or. After<br />

gradu<strong>at</strong>ion, he went full time with the<br />

Bank. He recently accepted a job in Pine<br />

Bluff with Entergy’s Market Systems Support<br />

group.<br />

Karl Vesecky (BS/Computer<br />

Inform<strong>at</strong>ion Systems ’05) Mr. Vesecky is<br />

currently living and working in Little Rock<br />

where he is employed by Dillard’s Corpor<strong>at</strong>e<br />

Office as a Java programmer. He<br />

works with a team <strong>of</strong> five other programmers<br />

on Dillard’s Intranet and Extranet<br />

systems. He thanks the UAM pr<strong>of</strong>essors<br />

and staff for their help in getting him<br />

where he is today. “I could not have done<br />

it without you!!”<br />
