UW-Whitewater Facts ABOUT UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-WHITEWATER Founded in 1868 as Whitewater Normal School for teachers, UW-Whitewater is located in south central Wisconsin on nearly 400 rolling acres. The university includes state of the art academic and athletic facilities, as well as a nature preserve and arboretum. The University of Wisconsin System was formed in 1972 and has 26 campuses and over 140,000 students, the fourth largest higher education system in the United States. Currently, UW-Whitewater is the fourth largest of the universities, with over 10,700 students and 1,000 staff members. The university offers fortysix undergraduate degree programs and thirteen graduate degree programs and is divided into four colleges: the College of Arts and Communication, the College of Business and Economics, the College of Education, and the College of Letters and Science. Quick Facts: The Residence Hall Association (RHA) received the Large School Spirit Award at the National Association of College and University Residence Halls 2006 annual conference. UW-Whitewater sent 76 students to the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), the second largest contingent in the United States. UW-Whitewater was named “Large School of the Year” by the Wisconsin United Residence Hall Association (WURHA) in 2006, giving the school back-to-back awards. UW-Whitewater ranks number one in the nation in the percent of undergraduate students achieving first-time pass rates on the Uniform Certified Public Accounting Exam. UW-Whitewater is rated one of the top ten disability-friendly public universities in the U.S. by New Mobility magazine. UW-Whitewater’s American Marketing Association is the most decorated student chapter in the nation. UW-Whitewater is ranked one of the top public universities that grant master's degrees in the Midwest by U.S. News and World Report's 2007 edition of America's Best Colleges.
