The win extended <strong>Whitewater</strong>'s best ever start to thirteen consecutive wins. The 1986-87 had<br />

been the squad with the previous best beginning to a season at 7-0. The win also brought this<br />

year's team one step closer to the school record win streak of eighteen, established by the 1985-<br />

86 team (began January 11 vs. North Park, ended March 3 in the NCAA III quarterfinals at Rust<br />

College).<br />

<strong>UW</strong>-W, ranked second in the D3hoops.com national poll, is 13-0 overall and 4-0 in the Wisconsin<br />

Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. <strong>UW</strong>-RF is 6-7, and 0-4 in league play.<br />

<strong>Whitewater</strong> will host <strong>UW</strong>-La Crosse Wednesday, January 9 at 7:00 in the Kachel Gym of Williams<br />

Center.<br />

#2 Warhawks 14-0 After Win Over La Crosse<br />

<strong>UW</strong>-<strong>Whitewater</strong>, ranked second in the national Division III poll, remained unbeaten with a 92-62<br />

win over <strong>UW</strong>-La Crosse Wednesday evening in Kachel Gym in Williams Center in <strong>Whitewater</strong>.<br />

Senior center Lindsey Buechner became just the seventh player in school history to eclipse the<br />

1,000 point mark, scoring 19 points to put her career total at 1,001.<br />

Buechner led five Warhawks in double figures. Kelsey Hendrickson joined her in double digits<br />

with 16, Heidi Sonntag with 13, 12 from Tiffany Morton, and 11 by Rachel Woolever. Morton was<br />

also the game's leading rebounder, with seven. Hendrickson added a game-high four assists,<br />

and was among three Warhawks with three steals (along with Trisha Thill and Sonntag). Junior<br />

center Lindsay Wahl’s 22 points led the Eagles. Wahl hit 10-13 from the field. She was the only<br />

<strong>UW</strong>-L player in double figures.<br />

Both teams used sixteen players in the game, and both teams had eleven players break in to the<br />

scoring column.<br />

<strong>UW</strong>-W, which never trailed in the game, led 41-28 at halftime. The Warhawks pushed the margin<br />

to 88-54 at 3:23 on a layup by Buechner, coincidentally points number 1,000 and 1,001 in her<br />

career.<br />

<strong>UW</strong>-<strong>Whitewater</strong>, the top scoring team in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and<br />

number three in NCAA III statistics, passed the 90 point mark for the sixth time this season.<br />

<strong>Whitewater</strong> shot 56% from the field in the game, the fifth time this season the Warhawks hit more<br />

than 50% from the floor. The Warhawks also shot 47% (7-15) from three-point range, while ;the<br />

Eagles did not hit a shot from beyond the arc (0-6).<br />

<strong>UW</strong>-<strong>Whitewater</strong> is 14-0 overall, the longest season-opening win streak ever in <strong>UW</strong>-W women's<br />

basketball, and 5-0 in the WIAC. <strong>UW</strong>-La Crosse is 6-7 overall and 1-3 in the WIAC.<br />

<strong>Whitewater</strong> will play at <strong>UW</strong>-Eau Claire Saturday, and return home to host <strong>UW</strong>-Stout Saturday,<br />

January 19 at 3:00.<br />

Warhawks Suffer First Loss in Eau Claire<br />

Second-ranked <strong>UW</strong>-<strong>Whitewater</strong> fell from the unbeaten ranks with a 63-60 loss to <strong>UW</strong>-Eau Claire<br />

in Zorn Arena in Eau Claire Saturday night.<br />

The Warhawks led just once, 9-8, in the first half and trailed 29-19 at the break after shooting just<br />

22% from the floor and attempting just two free throws (both made). The Blugolds also had a 24-<br />

15 rebound edge in the first half.<br />

Eau Claire's lead stretched to twelve, 33-21 at 18:21 on a layup by Amanda Zenner, the largest<br />

lead in the game. The Blugolds' lead was still eleven, 39-28 with 14:32 left, but the Warhawks<br />

blitzed EC 14-0 over the next five minutes to take a 42-39 lead with 9:35 left. Eau Claire tied the<br />
