Led by 20 points from sophomore guard Heidi Sonntag, the Warhawks held 10-2, 20-6, and 26-8<br />

leads on the way to a 49-21 margin at halftime. <strong>Whitewater</strong> shot 55% in the first half, while<br />

limiting Coe to 29% from the floor.<br />

Sonntag was the game's leading scorer, winding up with 23 points on 10-15 shooting, including 3-<br />

3 from the three-point arc. Junior center Tiffany Morton, 12 points, senior center Lindsey<br />

Buechner, 11, and sophomore guard Kelsey Hendrickson, 11, also scored in double figures for<br />

the Warhawks. Senior guard Erin Jones topped Coe with 15, with freshman guard Kayla Lincoln<br />

adding 12 and sophomore center Brittany Norris 10. Buechner also contributed a game-high<br />

eight rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.<br />

<strong>Whitewater</strong> forced 27 turnovers, and Mary Donohoo's three steals led the team to a total of<br />

sixteen. <strong>UW</strong>-W used a full court game to keep the tempo up, with ten players seeing double<br />

figure minutes (and another played nine minutes). The Warhawks scored just above their season<br />

average of 86.5 points per game.<br />

<strong>Whitewater</strong>'s next game will be December 29 in the Surf City Classic in Irvine, California, where<br />

the Warhawks will play Widener College (PA). The next home game will be a return to Wisconsin<br />

Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, with <strong>UW</strong>-La Crosse visiting Williams Center January 9 at<br />

7:00.<br />

Warhawks Continue to Roll, Defeat Widener<br />

The fifth-ranked <strong>UW</strong>-<strong>Whitewater</strong> Warhawks defeated Widener College (PA) 73-42 Saturday at<br />

the Surf City Classic in Irvine, California to remain unbeaten at 11-0.<br />

The Warhawks settled the issue early, using a 19-2 start in the first seven minutes to set the<br />

tone. <strong>UW</strong>-W also came out of the locker room quickly after halftime, blitzing Widener 23-0,<br />

holding the Pioneers scoreless for the first 11:47 of the second half.<br />

Junior center Tiffany Morton led the Warhawks with a double-double, scoring 12 points and<br />

grabbing 11 rebounds. Senior center Lindsey Buechner led both teams with 18 points, and junior<br />

forward Meghan Schmidt was also in double figures with 10 points.<br />

Freshman forward Kylie Walton led Widener, 6-4, with nine points.<br />

<strong>Whitewater</strong> forced Widener in to 36 turnovers, the most by a <strong>UW</strong>-W opponent this year and the<br />

third time the Warhawk defense has created more than 30 turnovers by an opponent this<br />

season. <strong>UW</strong>-W's defense also limited Widener to 25% shooting from the floor (13-53).<br />

<strong>UW</strong>-W brought nineteen players on the trip and all of them saw action in the game.<br />

<strong>Whitewater</strong> will play the University of Mary Washington (VA) Sunday at 6:00 (Central) in Irvine.<br />

The next home game for the Warhawks will be Wednesday, January 9 with <strong>UW</strong>-La Crosse<br />

visiting Kachel Gym in Williams Center for a 7:00 tipoff.<br />

#5 Warhawks Topple #1 Mary Washington<br />

<strong>UW</strong>-<strong>Whitewater</strong> passed its biggest test of the season, staking a claim to national prominence with<br />

a 70-67 win over Mary Washington University (VA) Sunday night at the Surf City Classic in Irvine,<br />

California. <strong>UW</strong>-W, 12-0, came in to the game ranked fifth by D3hoops.com. Mary Washington,<br />

third in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III championship last season and now<br />

8-1, is ranked number one in the latest poll.<br />

<strong>UW</strong>-W led 35-22 at halftime, holding MWU to 33% shooting from the field.<br />
