Warhawks Blow Out #13 Millikin<br />
The <strong>UW</strong>-<strong>Whitewater</strong> women's basketball team, ranked eighteenth in the D3hoops.com preseason<br />
poll, opened the season Friday night with a 92-46 win over number thirteen Millikin University in<br />
the first game of the Coaches versus Cancer Tournament hosted by Millikin in Decatur, Illinois.<br />
<strong>Whitewater</strong> built a 53-25 halftime lead and continued to add on in the second half.<br />
The Warhawks shot 75% from the floor in the second half, including 3-5 from three point range.<br />
<strong>Whitewater</strong> shot 54% from the field for the game, while limiting Millikin to 32%.<br />
Kelsey Hendrickson and Trisha Thill combined for eleven of <strong>Whitewater</strong>'s 23 steals.<br />
The Warhawks also out-rebounded the Big Blue 45-27, with <strong>UW</strong>-W's Dana Thompson grabbing a<br />
game-high eight.<br />
The Warhawks were led in scoring by center Tiffany Morton's 21 points, with Hendrickson adding<br />
14 and Meghan Schmidt 12. Point guard Mary Donohoo had four assists and no turnovers for<br />
<strong>UW</strong>-W, who forced Millikin into 34 turnovers.<br />
Millikin was led by Lindsay Ippel's 18 points and 7 rebounds.<br />
<strong>Whitewater</strong> will play the winner of Robert Morris College (IL) and Maryville University, a game<br />
played later Friday night. The Millikin tourney title game will tip off at 4:00 at Millikin in Decatur.<br />
Warhawks Coast Past Maryville<br />
The Warhawk women's basketball team made it 2-0 with a 93-74 win over Maryville College<br />
Saturday evening in the championship game of the Coaches versus Cancer Tournament hosted<br />
by Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois.<br />
<strong>UW</strong>-W jumped out to a 10-2 lead, but Maryville put together a run of their own and climbed within<br />
13-11 with 14:27 left in the half. <strong>UW</strong>-W briefly flirted with double figure leads for several minutes,<br />
but Maryville was back within five, 31-26, with 4:55 left.<br />
The Warhawks out-scored MC 16-4 three and a half minutes to take a 47-30 lead in to the locker<br />
room. The closest Maryville got was 49-35 at the 18:05 mark, and the Warhawks led by as<br />
twenty-one on several occasions.<br />
<strong>Whitewater</strong>'s victory was built by a 55-32 rebound advantage. Tiffany Morton was leading<br />
rebounder in th game, with 11, and the other part of <strong>Whitewater</strong>'s post tandem, Dana Thompson,<br />
added 10 boards.<br />
<strong>UW</strong>-W's Morton was also the leading scorer in the game, with 21, and tops in blocked shots with<br />
3. Also in double figures for the Warhawks was Nicole Bundy, 15, Meghan Schmidt, 12, and<br />
Lindsay Buechner with 11. Maryville was led in scoring by Samantha Maines with 14, with<br />
Courtney Bergheger and Sara Wemlinger with 13 apiece. Allie Wilhelm was also in double<br />
figures with 12. Wemlinger added eight rebounds to lead MU in that category.<br />
<strong>Whitewater</strong>'s Kelsey Hendrickson and Morton were named to the all-tournament team.<br />
<strong>UW</strong>-W, ranked eighteenth in the Division III preseason poll, knocked off thirteenth ranked Millikin<br />
University 92-46 Friday night in the Coaches versus Cancer Tournament.<br />
The Warhawks next game, and their first home contest, will be Sunday, November 25 at 3:00,<br />
with Cornell College (IA) visiting Kachel Gym in Williams Center.<br />
