<strong>Scotland</strong>. The father of George Russell, late of Sydney, left<br />
Kirkcaldy, Fife, about 1814, and emigrated with his family<br />
first to Tasmania and then to Sydney, Australia. In Sydney<br />
he commenced a foundry and engineering business. Three of<br />
his sons succeeded him, and have come out of the fii-m with<br />
fortunes. Children: Eliza Alison Russell,* b. in 1872. Sydney<br />

in 1853. At the death of his father, he succeeded to the<br />
estate of Bonnytown, county of Ayr, <strong>Scotland</strong>. That estate he<br />
sold for £20,000, and proceeded to Australia, where he became<br />
a stockholder in Queensland and New South Wales. He was<br />
educated in Bury St. Edmunds, England. He has held the<br />
office of justice of the peace, and is a member of the legislative<br />
assembly of New South Wales. His P. O. address is Union<br />
Club, Sydney, Australia.<br />
61. William Alison,' b. in Springbank, Stratliavon, county of Lanark,<br />
<strong>Scotland</strong>, and was educated in Bury St. Edmunds, England.<br />
He m. Ellen, daughter of James Wilson. Mr. Alison inherited<br />
his father's great estate of 1,100,100 acres at Canonbar, Austi-alia,<br />
and is the second largest land-owner in Australia. He<br />
is a justice of the peace, and a member of the legislative<br />
assembly of New South 62.<br />

James i). He was born at Kil wakening, <strong>Scotland</strong>, in<br />
1817. At the age of 21 he went to Australia, where he became<br />
a large and successful squatter. After amassing what<br />
he considered a sufficient fortune, he returned to his native<br />
parish and built a house, which is called Sydney Villa, in<br />
Strathavon. There he resides in peace, plenty, and retirement,<br />
producing happiness to others by his generosity and<br />
kindness. He is unmarried.<br />
