IL John Alison^ (28). b. at Windyedge, <strong>Scotland</strong>, in 1708; went to Foulpopple,<br />

London, Ayrshire, <strong>Scotland</strong>, in 17o9.<br />

12. William Alison' (27), b. at Windyedge, <strong>Scotland</strong>, in 1710; res. Dykehead,<br />

East Kilbride, county Lanark, <strong>Scotland</strong>. The latter<br />

place is near Cairnduff, Avondale, county Lanark, <strong>Scotland</strong>.<br />

13. James Alison^ [9], (Michael,^ James i). He was<br />

born near Londonderry, Ireland, in 1689. He returned to<br />

Windyedge, <strong>Scotland</strong>, with his father, and married, in 1720,<br />

Margaret, daughter of William Semple, of Nethershields,<br />

Glassford Parish, Braehead, and Nettlyhole, and became heir<br />

to these two last farms. The two latter places are names of<br />

farms in Avondale, county Lanark.<br />

1760 ; married Helen, daughter of Matthew Lawson, of Kil-<br />

wakening, county of Lanark.<br />

15. Margaret Alison ^ born, 1762, at Windyedge ; married<br />

William Torrance, of Glasgow, and died in Glasgow.<br />

Cross, of South Lodgeayr, a merchant in Glasgow. He, with<br />

his brother, David Cross, constituted the well known firm of Alexander<br />

Cross & Sons, seed, grain, and chemical merchants.<br />

Children : Alexander Cross,' is member of i^arliament for Glasgow,<br />

<strong>Scotland</strong>. He m. Jessie, daughter of Sir Peter Coats, of Auchendrane,<br />

so deservedly known as a thread manufacturer in Paisley<br />

and the United States, but still more honorably known for his liberality<br />

to every religious and benevolent cause, and whose memory<br />

will never be forgotten so long as Paisley lasts and the United<br />

Presbyterian Church continues. Alexander Cross owns a large<br />

tract of land in one of the states of the United States. Jane. T.<br />

daughter of Archibald Walker, of Vauxhall Distillery. Helen<br />

Cross,' m. Walter McFarlane, of the Saracon Foundry, Glasgow,<br />
