CHAKLES ALLISON, OF YARMOUTH, N. S. 199<br />

was born, March 26, 1839, at Richibucto, N. B., and is greatgranddaughter<br />

of Solomon Powell, a Loyalist in the American<br />

Revolution, who emigrated from Poughkeepsie, N. Y.,<br />

in 1784, to Nova Scotia. Her parents were Edmund and<br />

Ann Powell.<br />

). He was born in Kentville, N. S.,<br />

Sept. 22, 1821. In 1858 he was appointed justice of the peace<br />

for Queens county, N. S. in 1861 was ; elected to the Nova<br />

Scotia parliament as representative of North Queens Co. ; in<br />

1865 was appointed lieutenant-colonel of the militia, and in<br />

1867 was chosen a member of the provincial government with<br />

the office of commissioner of mines. In September, 1867, he<br />

and all his colleagues were defeated at the election, with the<br />

exception of the attorney-general,<br />
