William,2 Johni). He was born April 3, 1798, at Grand<br />

Pr^, N. S. He was a leading merchant in Halifax, and part-<br />

ner with David Allison in the firm of Fairbanks & Allisons,<br />

in their day the largest mercantile house in the maritime<br />

provinces. He married, October 9, 1824, Jane Boggs, daughter<br />

of Charles and Marj (Fraser) Boggs, of New Jersey,<br />

and had seven children. She died June, 1858. He died in<br />

Halifax, N. S., February, 1872.<br />
