at which he has eVer since been engaged. In 1866 he<br />

started on his own account, in partnership with James Manchester<br />

and James F. Robertson, under the firm name of Manchester,<br />

Robertson & Allison, They are still in trade, and<br />

have built up the largest wholesale and retail trade business<br />

William,^ John i). He was born in Horton, N. S., December<br />

of Matthew<br />

1, 1795 ; married, July, 1821, Margaret, daughter<br />

and (Jenkins) Elder. She was born in Falmouth, N. S.,<br />

June 12, 1799 ; died in Newport, N. S., March, 1872. Her<br />

father was a native of county of Donegal, Ireland, and lived<br />

in Falmouth, N. S. Mr. Allison was a farmer, and resided<br />

in Horton, N. S., from 1795 to 1804, and in Newport, N. S.,<br />

from 1804 till his death in 1867. He was one of the leading<br />

magistrates of Newport, and for five years represented that<br />

township in the provincial parliament. He was Methodist<br />

in his religious affiliations.<br />
