June 27, 1846. Mr. Allison worked till his majority upon<br />

his father's farm. In 1859 he entered the Mount Morris<br />

seminary of Ogle county, 111., intending to prepare himself<br />

for the legal profession. The war, breaking out in 1861, broke<br />

up his life plan. He entered the military service as an enlisted<br />

man, eight days after the attack on Fort Sumter, en-<br />

listing April 22, 1861, in Company H, Fifteenth regiment,<br />

Illinois infantry. He was wounded in both hands at the<br />

battle of Hatcher's River, Oct. 5, 1862, losing his left hand<br />

and third and fourth fingers of the right, and again in the<br />

right ankle at Champion Hills, Miss., Feb. 4, 1864. He<br />

served six years, seven months, and seven days, and was honorably<br />

discharged as a first lieutenant, Jan. 1, 1868. He was an<br />

officer of the Freedmen's Bureau, North Carolina, after the<br />

war. He has held the office of special examiner of the<br />

United States pension office. He has been circuit clerk and<br />

recorder, and county clerk of Carroll county, 111., for thirteen<br />

years, and was first assistant clerk of the House of Representatives<br />

of Illinois for the twenty-eighth and thirty-third Gen-<br />

eral Assembly. He resided at Toronto, Canada, till April,<br />

1840, then in Milledgeville, Carroll county, 111., till 1868 ;<br />

since 1868, in Mount Carroll, Carroll county, 111. He receives<br />

a pension of $30 per month, and is a Republican, having cast<br />

his first vote for Abraham Lincoln.<br />

lived at Malvern, Whitesides county, 111. She was daughter<br />

of Samuel Eisenburg, and Elizabeth (Grater) Horning, and<br />

grand-daughter of Henry and Hannah (Eisenburg) Horning<br />

of Montgomery county, Penn. Mr. Allison has lived in<br />

Mount Carroll, 111., and Wymore, Nebraska. He is a teacher<br />

and farmer; resides Milledgeville, 111.
