He was born<br />

in South Carolina, May 28, 1800 ; married Sarah, daughter<br />

of Joseph Reasonover, and emigrated to Smith county, Ten-<br />

nessee, where he was reared.<br />

He was born April 28, 1814, in Panola, Miss. He left his<br />

native state, and located at Franklin, parish of St. Marj^ La.<br />

He was elected sheriff, and served in 1872; was elected clerk<br />

of the court, and served in that capacity. Later he removed<br />

to Morgan City, La., and was for three years assistant col-<br />

lector of United States customs. He married, Jan. 14, 1870,<br />

at Pine Prairie, parish of St. Laudry, Mary Adelia Adams,<br />

born in the parish of St. Martin, La., Nov. 8, 1852. Residence,<br />

Morgan City, La.<br />

ALLISONS OF THE PARISH OF LIFFORD, COUNTY OF DON-<br />

EGAL, IRELAND, xVND OF TENNESSEE, U. S.<br />

848. Andrew Allison,^ of Scotch blood, lived at Churchminster,<br />

near Ballandreat, in the parish of Lifford, county of<br />

Donegal, Ireland. This parish is a few miles southwest of<br />

the city of Londonderr}--, on the border of the county of<br />

Tyrone, and in the province of Ulster, so noted for its settlement<br />

by Scotch and English 'colonists more than two centu-<br />

ries ago. Lord Lifford owns much landed property at this<br />

place, and is its chief inhabitant. From the small railway<br />

station we can see on a high, ledgy adjacent hill a flagstaff,<br />

which is flagless when his lordship is absent, but from which<br />

a flag flutters in the breeze when his lordship is at home.<br />

In this locality lived Mr. Allison and his family .^<br />

'Alexander Porter, of Churchminster, near Ballandreat, parish of Lifford,<br />

county of Donegal, Ireland, was of the Scotcli Presbyterians, that<br />

strong, sturdy race, whicli leaves its imprint and influence on men and institutions<br />

wherever planted. He had a daughter, Matilda Porter, who
