832. John Craig Allison,^ born in Wythe county, Va.,<br />

of William and<br />

Oct. 5, 1828 ; married Minerva, daughter<br />

Jane (Rayburn) Guthrie, of Dublin, Pulaski county, Va.<br />

She was born there Sept. 28, 1831 ; died in Wytheville, Va.,<br />

Jan. 13, 1885. [She was granddaughter of Richard and Elizabeth<br />

(Mcintosh) Guthrie, of Maryland. He VN^as born April<br />

2, 1767 ; died in 1840, in Dublin, Va. ; and was grandson of<br />

James Guthrie, born in Ireland, lived in Maryland, who married<br />

Esther Giles, and died in Rockbridge county, Va.] Mr.<br />

Allison married, second, Matilda Ann Sanders, daughter of<br />

Stephen and Mary Craig (Allison) Sanders, born in Wythe<br />

county, Va., Jan. 26, 1840. Mr. Allison was a farmer before<br />

was severely wounded the day General Lee surren-<br />

dered. He was elected county treasurer of Wythe count3% Va.,<br />

and served for fourteen years ; residence, Wytheville, Wythe<br />

county, Va. Mrs. Minerva (Guthrie) Allison died a tragic<br />

death by a kerosene explosion. She was true to her Scotch<br />

blood and was proud of her people. A noble Christian<br />

woman, "she died a triumphant Christian death ; her voiceless<br />

lips are sealed in silence by the words, 'I am the resurrection<br />

and the life.' "<br />

833. John Lee Allison,* b. Pulaski Co., town of Dublin, Virginia, Sept.<br />

5, 1863. He was educated in the high school at Wytheville,<br />

Va. ; graduated at King college, Bristol, Tenn., at twenty years<br />

of age, and from the Union Theological seminary at Hampden,<br />

Sidney, Prince Edward Co., Va. Is a Presbyterian clergyman,<br />

and is settled over a Presbyterian churcli at Radford City, Va.,<br />

where he resides. He m., Feb. 28, 1888, Laura B. Stanley.<br />

ALLISONS OF TENNESSEE AND LOUISIANA.<br />

836. Thomas Allison.^ According to my information, he<br />

was from Philadelphia, Penn., and his forefathers were living<br />

in Pennsylvania before the Revolution. Mr. Allison lived in<br />

South Carolina, then in Smith county, Tenn. He had two<br />

brothers ; one was Samuel Allison, of Carthage, Tenn., who<br />

at different times was a member of the legislature, sheriff,<br />

and clerk of the court for Smith county.<br />
