Ky., after 1797, and lived in Cooper county, Mo., after March^<br />

1821, where he died April 25, 1846. He married, Nov. 5,<br />

1788, Rebecca Sanders Hartt. Hugh Allison was a fair business<br />

man. Was elected coroner of Cooper county, Mo.»<br />

August, 1824, and again in 1828, serving eight years in all.<br />

As a military man he served three years in Colonel Whitley's<br />

regiment of volunteers in 1812-'13-'14, and was in Harrison's^<br />

army, was at the battle of Lundy's Lane. After his discharge<br />

he was commissioned a captain in the Kentuck}'militia.<br />

He always declared that he would gladly have<br />

fought three years longer rather than to have let Great Britain<br />

have one foot of ground in America. He was a fiery<br />

patriot and was ever ready to serve his country. He was a<br />

believer in a sound national currency that was worth one<br />

hundred cents on a dollar anywhere on earth. In 1840, by<br />

appointment, he met and spent a short time with Gen. W. H.<br />

Harrison, the AVhig candidate for president, at Vincennes, Indiana.<br />

On July 4, 1840, he was present at the grand Whig<br />

rally at Rochefort, Mo., it being one of the largest political<br />

gatherings ever held in the state. There are said to have<br />

been 17 steamboats loaded with people who came to attend.<br />

Mr. Allison was a great friend and admirer of President Harrison,<br />

and wasgreatl}' overcome when the news reached him<br />

in 1841 of the death of his old commander. He was a farmer,<br />

and a dealer in fat cattle and hogs. Was a Baptist.- Was<br />

an uncompromising Whig. He took an active part in the<br />

election of General Harrison to the presidency in 1840. He<br />

favored the extension of the charter of the U. S. bank; he'<br />

also favored a protective tariff.<br />

close of tlie war of 1812-'lij, they settled in Illinois, and some of<br />

this family lived in Alhambra, Madison county, 111.<br />

722. Jesse Allison,"* b. Sept. 29, 1791; m. Mary Snodgrass, in 1809;<br />

served in the U. IS. army in 1812-18-14. Went to Illinoisin<br />

1821, Co. Madison; rem. to Cooper Co., Mo., in 1840, and<br />

later to Arrow Kock, Saline Co., in fall of 18.59, and d. there<br />

about March 1, 1860. James Allison, Yuba Dam, Yuba Co.^<br />

Cal., and Dr. John L. Allison, Poplar Bluff, Butler Co., Mo.,<br />

are of that branch of the family.<br />

724. Thomas Allison,^ 1). in North Carolina, Sept. 4, 1795. lies. Wilkes<br />

Co., N. C, Madison Co., Ky., and in St. Charles Co., Cooper<br />

Co., Pettis Co., and Lawrence Co., Mo. He enlisted in the<br />

militia against the rebels in 18(58, beinfj over (50 years of age,<br />

and was killed near Mount Vernon, in Lawrence Co., Mo.,<br />

about May, 18(58. He m. Koxanna Snyder in 181(5. He m.<br />

second, Nancy Orr, in 18.5(5. Children: Nathaniel T. Alllison,''<br />
