father was son of Thomas, and grandson of Henry Hampton.<br />

Mr. Allison was educated at the state university at Chapel<br />

Hill, N. C, studied law under Chief Justice Pearson, and<br />

was admitted to the bar in Jan., 1852. He was a practicing<br />

lawyer, county attorney for Iredell county, and died, after a<br />

brief illness, at Statesville, N. C, April 30, 1884. He was<br />

cast in a heroic mould, a man of most positive convictions,<br />

and was never false to friend or client, and no one was more<br />

unswerving in adherence to principle. He was buried with<br />

Masonic honors.<br />

ander," Thomas,^ Thomas^). He was born Oct. 10, 1830.<br />

Married, Oct. 21, 1856, Mary E. Locke, of Alabama; she<br />

died Feb. 12, 1863. He married second, in Tuscaloosa, Ala.,<br />

Laura Matthews, Dec. 14, 1865, who died about 1880. He<br />

entered Davidson college, N. C, in 1851, graduated in 1854;<br />

received the degree of M. D. from Jefferson Medical college,<br />

in Philadelphia ; was a physician in Lowndes county, Miss.,<br />

till 1861, when he returned to Philadelphia and took a special<br />

course in surgery. During the war he practiced at home, and<br />

in the hospitals in Virginia. In 1864 he opened a hospital<br />

for the sick and wounded soldiers at Statesville. Residence,<br />
