ALLISONS OF NORTH CAROLINA.<br />

Allison^ [579], one of the five emigrants<br />

from Pennsylvania, and a brother of Robert Allison, as stated<br />

in a record by Robert Washington Allison, of Concord, N. C,<br />

April, 1887. He was born in Pennsylvania, and his people<br />

from Ireland, like all of the residents in Ulster, were weavers.<br />

He resided in Pennsylvania, removed to North Carolina with<br />

his brothers, and was one of the earliest settlers in Iredell<br />

county, and one of its first purchasers of land. He owned a<br />

plantation which has been in possession of his descendants<br />

for more than one hundred years. Residence at Bethany<br />

Church, N. C, where he died.<br />

587. Thomas Allison' (597); res. Bethany Church, N. C.<br />

588. Robert Allison^ [585], one of the five brothers who<br />

went south from Pennsylvania, between 1760 and 1770, probably,<br />

was born in 1750, and settled near Charlotte, N. C, and<br />

married Sarah Graham. ^ Mrs. Allison was a sister of Joseph<br />

Graham, the father of Hon. William A. Graham, once governor<br />

of North Carolina, and candidate for vice-president of<br />

the United States on the ticket with General Winfield Scott,<br />

in 1852. Mrs. Allison was the aunt of Miss Graham, sister<br />

of Hon. William A.Graham, who married Rev. Hall Morrison,<br />

D. D., and one of their daughters married General D. H. Hill,<br />

and another married General Thomas J. Jackson, known as<br />

"Stonewall" Jackson. In 1790, Mr. Allison removed to<br />

Poplar Tent on Clark's creek, in what is now Cabarrus county,<br />

and was a ruling elder in the church there. He died in 1804,<br />

aged 54 years. Mrs. Allison was delicate in appearance, had<br />

great energy, and was a fine manager and a strong Presbyterian.<br />

'She was a daughter of Widow Graham, of Pennsylvania, who, with<br />

slender means and five small children, John Graham, George Graham,<br />

Joseph Graham, Sarah Graham, and Ann Graham, removed to Mecklenburgh,<br />

N. C, about 17(55.<br />

'The Youngs were of the same Scotch blood who came from Ireland to<br />

Pennsylvania, and later to North Carolina.<br />
