Allisons of Nokth Carolina—Five Branches—Allisons of Glasgow,<br />

<strong>Scotland</strong>, Noktu Carolina, and Virginia.*<br />

Five brothers by name of Allison, born in Pennsylvania^<br />

(one account says in Ireland), lived on the Yellowstone river<br />

in that state, and between 1760 and 1770, and before the<br />

War of the Revolution, they moved to North Carolina, while<br />

their brother, James Allison, remained in Pennsylvania.<br />

They were of that strong Scotch stock which went from <strong>Scotland</strong><br />

to Ireland, and later to Pennsylvania, New Hampshire,<br />

and the southern states, and who have been such magnificent<br />

builders of states and commonwealths. They settled in Iredell<br />

and Mecklenburgh counties, where the name to-day is very<br />

common. The names of these emigrants to North Carolina<br />

were :<br />

580. John Allison,^ married, first, a sister of Colonel Richard<br />

Allison, of Iredell county, N. C. The relationship between<br />

them is not known. There was no issue by this marriage.<br />

He married a second time.<br />

Polly Anderson,^ his daughter, married her cousin,<br />

James Allison,^ son of Robert Allison.^ Mr. Allison<br />

lived at Poplar Tent, Mecklenburgh county, N. C.<br />

583. George Allison,^ settled in Mecklenburgh or Iredell<br />

county, N. C.<br />

584. Thomas Allison,^ born 1743, was never married. He<br />

was a school teacher of renown, and was widely known as<br />

"Master Allison." He died in Nov., 1811, aged 68 years.<br />

A sister of these five Allisons married a Mr. Todd, settled<br />

in Mecklenburgh, N. C, and their descendants live in that<br />

count}^ today.<br />

585. Robert Allison^ (588), born in 1750 ; married Sarah<br />

Graham ; resided on Clark's Creek, Cabarrus county, N. C. ;<br />

died in 1804, aged 54 years.<br />
