Samuel,- SamueP )• He was born in Dublin, N. H., March<br />

15, 1823. On attaining his majority he left his native town,<br />

and in 1849 he joined the great flood of emigration to the<br />

gold fields of California, A few months' stay amid the hardships<br />

to which all were subjected, and the bad influence of<br />

the climate, brought on a severe sickness, compelling the<br />

abandonment of his plans and his return to New England.<br />

From that illness his system has never fully recovered. For<br />

three years he was connected with the postoffice in <strong>Boston</strong>,<br />

Mass. Since then he has been in active business life for<br />

others or for himself, and in 1893 was in the ships' stores<br />

and ships' chandlery business, of the firm of Allison &<br />

Mason, No.- 1 and 2 Russia wharf, 270 Congress St., Bos-<br />

ton, Mass. Is a Republican in politics.<br />

Samuel^). He was born in Dublin, N. H., March 13,<br />

1830, where he has always lived. He married, March 9,<br />

1854, Sarah Jane, daughter of William and Julia (Johnson)<br />

Darracott, who was born in Dublin, May 27, 1837; died<br />

there May 1, 1878. Her father was born in Shrewsbury, Vt.,<br />

Feb. 17, 1804; died in Dublin, Aug. 28, 1884. Mr. Allison<br />

married, second, Dec. 3, 1878, Bessie Maria Darracott, a sister<br />

of his first wife. She was born in Dublin, April 29, 1839 ;<br />

and died in Dublin July 10, 1880. Mr. Allison was educated<br />

in the common schools and in early manhood taught<br />

school for several winters, and then settled on the homestead<br />

to care for his parents in their declining years. For nineteen<br />

years he has served as agent to invest and care for the trust<br />

funds of the town of Dublin, being elected in 1872. For<br />

twenty-eight years he has served as a trustee of the Appleton<br />

school fund, and has been a member of the school board for five<br />

years.<br />

A large amount of probate business is entrusted to him,<br />
