GEORGE AUGUSTUS ALLISON, OF CAMBREDGE, MASS. 107<br />

1842. Mr. Powers was a native of Woodstock, Vt. He<br />

married Sarepta Martin, a native of Rocliester, Vt. Mr.<br />

Allison was educated in the public schools of Manchester, N.<br />

H., and at the academy at Pembroke, N. H. When about<br />

to enter college, he decided to engage in mercantile pursuits,<br />

and spent several years as a clerk in Concord, N. H. ; in Jan.,<br />

1865, became a salesman in a wholesale establishment in <strong>Boston</strong>,<br />

Mass., and in January, 1869, became a partner. Since<br />

then he has been identified with <strong>Boston</strong>'s business interests.<br />

For many years<br />

he was a member of the <strong>Boston</strong> board of<br />

trade, <strong>Boston</strong> commercial exchange, and a member of the<br />

<strong>Boston</strong> chamber of commerce since its organization ; was a<br />

director of the last for five years, and its elegant building<br />

was built during that period. Cambridge, Mass., became<br />

his home in 1865, and there he has since lived. In the<br />

social, religious, and political circles of that city he has been<br />

active. He is a member of the North Avenue Baptist<br />

church, aided in establishing the Young Men's Christian<br />

association, and has been a member of the Cambridge and<br />

Colonial clubs since their formation. He was a member of<br />

the common council of his adopted city in 1881-'82, of the<br />

board of aldermen in 1885-'86, was twice elected for a term<br />

of three years each on the school board but after four years<br />

service by the pressure of other duties he resigned his<br />

position. His business office is in the Chamber of Commerce<br />

building, <strong>Boston</strong>, Mass. Residence, Cambridge, Mass.<br />

3. William Henry Allison," b. Somerville, jNIass., Aug. 17, 1870. He<br />

entered Harvard University in 1889, in the class of 1893, where<br />

lie expects to graduate.<br />

Samuel,^ SamueP). He was born July 30, 1824, in Concord,<br />

N. H., where his life was mainly spent until his eighteenth<br />

year, when he went to Boscawen, N. H., to learn the<br />

trade of carriage maker. He completed hrs apprenticeship in<br />

Merrimacport, Mass., then went to West Amesbury, where<br />

he lived the remainder of his life. He married, in Boscawen,<br />

N. H., Nov. 27, 1846, Esther Jane, daughter of Jeremiah and<br />

Martha (Jackman) Noyes of that town, where she was born<br />

Jan. 6, 1823, and who now lives a widow in Merrimacport,
