ROTC: Military Science<br />

Basic Course<br />

The Basic Course is an introduction to military science and pletion <strong>of</strong> basic combat training through the National Guard<br />

carries no military obligation. Completion is a prerequisite or Reserve, or completion <strong>of</strong> Camp Challenge may be substito<br />

enrollment in the Advanced Course. Prior service, com- tuted for the Basic Course.<br />

Advanced Course<br />

All cadets who successfully complete the Basic Course, meet<br />

the physical and academic requirements, and pass an <strong>of</strong>ficerqualification<br />

test and a physical examination are eligible for<br />

selection by the pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> military science for the Advanced<br />

Course. A tax-free subsistence allowance <strong>of</strong> $150 per month<br />

is paid to each cadet in the Advanced Course except during<br />

Summer Camp<br />

Cadets are paid approximately $700 during both Camp<br />

Challenge (the Basic Camp) and Camp Adventure (the<br />

Advanced Camp). Travel to and from camp is at government<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Military Education Requirements (PMEs)<br />

In order to receive a well-rounded education, cadets are<br />

required to complete courses in the following areas: advanced<br />

Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP)<br />

Membership in the Army National Guard or United States<br />

Army Reserve <strong>of</strong>fers cadets additional experience as <strong>of</strong>ficer<br />

trainees, and these individuals will receive both the ROTC<br />

Financial Assistance<br />

In addition to a monthly subsistence <strong>of</strong> $150, the program<br />

<strong>of</strong>fers two-, three- and four-year federal Army ROTC scholarships<br />
