ROTC: Military Science
Basic Course
The Basic Course is an introduction to military science and pletion of basic combat training through the National Guard
carries no military obligation. Completion is a prerequisite or Reserve, or completion of Camp Challenge may be substito
enrollment in the Advanced Course. Prior service, com- tuted for the Basic Course.
Advanced Course
All cadets who successfully complete the Basic Course, meet
the physical and academic requirements, and pass an officerqualification
test and a physical examination are eligible for
selection by the professor of military science for the Advanced
Course. A tax-free subsistence allowance of $150 per month
is paid to each cadet in the Advanced Course except during
Summer Camp
Cadets are paid approximately $700 during both Camp
Challenge (the Basic Camp) and Camp Adventure (the
Advanced Camp). Travel to and from camp is at government
Professional Military Education Requirements (PMEs)
In order to receive a well-rounded education, cadets are
required to complete courses in the following areas: advanced
Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP)
Membership in the Army National Guard or United States
Army Reserve offers cadets additional experience as officer
trainees, and these individuals will receive both the ROTC
Financial Assistance
In addition to a monthly subsistence of $150, the program
offers two-, three- and four-year federal Army ROTC scholarships
up to $16,000 per year to qualified students. IIT offers
