Applied Mathematics
Applied Mathematics
The field of applied mathematics explores those branches
of mathematics that form the foundation of science and engineering-probability
and statistics, numerical analysis,
and mathematical modeling. Collectively, these branches define
an emerging field of study called computational science,
which uses techniques drawn from applied mathematics and
computer science to solve problems arising in the sciences,
engineering and business.
Departmental Curricula
The department offers a Bachelor of Science with specialization
in applied mathematics. Students in this program
combine a foundation in mathematics and computer science
with a professional concentration in another discipline in
which they apply their computational mathematics skills to
the modeling and the solution of real world problems.
The requirements for the bachelor’s degree are summarized
