Libraries<br />
As the central library, the Paul V. Galvin Library provides a<br />
broad range <strong>of</strong> services including information on engineering,<br />
business, science, mathematics, the humanities, architecture and<br />
design via the Internet; numerous electronic and paper-based<br />
databases; a document delivery service; interlibrary loan; and<br />
special collections. Students can access holdings through the<br />
ILLINET Online Cataloging System, which provides information<br />
about the collections <strong>of</strong> 800 libraries throughout <strong>Illinois</strong>,<br />
and through corporate memberships at The John Crerar Library<br />
at the University <strong>of</strong> Chicago. Patrons <strong>of</strong> the Galvin Library<br />
can use a World Wide Web-based network providing access to<br />
Engineering Village and ProQuest, two comprehensive, fulltext<br />
databases in engineering and business, as well as many other<br />
CD-ROM indexes, abstracts and full text databases.<br />
The Graham Resource Center on the lower level <strong>of</strong> S.R. Crown<br />
Hall houses architectural and city and regional planning materials.<br />

The Center for the Study <strong>of</strong> Ethics in the Pr<strong>of</strong>essions Library<br />
at the Downtown Campus contains a variety <strong>of</strong> material dealing<br />
with topics in practical and pr<strong>of</strong>essional ethics.<br />
The Louis Biegler Library on the Rice Campus contains a<br />
collection <strong>of</strong> electrical engineering materials. The focus is on<br />
electronic access to information.<br />
The Chicago-Kent College <strong>of</strong> Law Library at the Downtown<br />
Campus is a technologically advanced library with outstanding<br />
collections in law, business and the social sciences.<br />
Chicago-Kent also houses one <strong>of</strong> the largest collections <strong>of</strong><br />
international law and commerce materials in the Midwest.<br />
The library at the M<strong>of</strong>fett Campus supports research on food<br />
technology and safety.<br />
The Center for Multicultural Programs (CMP) assists minor- personal counseling; academic monitoring: and assistance<br />
ity students with transition from high school. One aspect in obtaining pre-pr<strong>of</strong>essional employment and scholarships.<br />
<strong>of</strong> IIT’s success in retaining and graduating minority students CMP <strong>of</strong>fers opportunities for collaborative study and peer<br />
is the Academic Challenge for Excellence program, a collection mentoring. CMP maintains a computer lab, interactive<br />
<strong>of</strong> personal and pr<strong>of</strong>essional development activities. These learning s<strong>of</strong>tware and learning aids, and a video library <strong>of</strong><br />
include a weekly fall semester orientation class; academic and historical, cultural and social topics.<br />
Women’s Center<br />
IIT’s Women’s Educational Development Center assists<br />
women students in their academic programs. Social, cultural<br />
and educational events are planned for women students,<br />
Writing Center<br />
faculty and staff through the Women’s Network, a support<br />
group <strong>of</strong> women on campus.<br />
The Writing Center coordinates all aspects <strong>of</strong> instruction in lab, lecture, design, ITP and IPRO classes. For many <strong>of</strong> these<br />
written, oral, electronic and interpersonal communications at classes, students will have one-on-one contact with a commu-<br />

Humanities, where students can go for tutoring on writing acquisition <strong>of</strong> technical knowledge with pr<strong>of</strong>essional help in<br />

<strong>of</strong> English (ESL). In addition, the program directs one tutoring five evenings per week throughout the semester<br />
IIT’s Communication Across the Curriculum initiative, and conduct special evening programs on such things as<br />
which provides intensive, in-class communications training in Power Point presentation skills and HTML.<br />
Student Affairs<br />
The Office <strong>of</strong> Student Affairs oversees many areas <strong>of</strong> student all students to participate in athletics, student organizations<br />
life and serves as the primary advocate and ombudsperson for and pr<strong>of</strong>essional societies. Students are also encouraged<br />
