Requirements for Transfer<br />

Transfer applicants must be in good academic standing at<br />

their previous colleges to be considered for admission to<br />

IIT Admission is based upon a cumulative GPA and individual<br />

grades in all classes that apply to the major selected.<br />

A minimum cumulative GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.0 is expected for transfer<br />

consideration. Students on academic probation, or who<br />

have been dismissed for academic or other reasons, will not<br />

Official credit evaluations are completed only after a student<br />

is admitted to IIT.<br />

Courses may be acceptable for transfer from accredited colleges<br />

and universities, provided they are comparable in nature,<br />

content and level to those <strong>of</strong>fered at IIT. Credit may also<br />

be accepted, based on appropriate documentation, test scores<br />

and agency recommendations for CLEP (see page 172),<br />

Dames and military experience. IIT, however, does not grant<br />

credit for vocational courses or life/work experience. In<br />

addition, technology courses will not be accepted in any<br />

engineering program.<br />

A maximum <strong>of</strong> 68 applicable semester hours <strong>of</strong> transfer<br />

credit is permitted from a two-year college. There is no<br />

Transfer-Student Financial Aid<br />

Financial aid for all admitted freshmen and new transfer students<br />

is processed in the Office <strong>of</strong> Undergraduate Admission.<br />

Continuing-student financial aid is processed by the IIT<br />

Office <strong>of</strong> Financial Aid. IIT <strong>of</strong>fers both need- and merit-based<br />

aid. To be considered for need-based aid and merit scholarships<br />

at IIT, students must submit a Free Application for<br />

be considered for transfer. Students must also be in good<br />

financial standing at all previous colleges attended.<br />

Transfer applicants with less than 30 hours <strong>of</strong> transferable<br />

graded college coursework must submit high school transcripts<br />

and SAT1 or ACT scores as part <strong>of</strong> their application.<br />

college; however, the final 45 semester hours must<br />

be completed at IIT. (See page 175.)<br />

Transfer credit will be accepted for courses completed with<br />

the equivalent <strong>of</strong> a grade “C” or better. A grade <strong>of</strong> “C-” is not<br />

acceptable for transfer credit. In certain instances, the academic<br />

department must approve transfer credit if a long period <strong>of</strong><br />

time has elapsed since the course was completed.<br />

Transfer articulation agreements that list course equivalents<br />

are available for most two-year Chicago-area colleges from<br />

the Office <strong>of</strong> Undergraduate Admission, the Office <strong>of</strong><br />

Educational Services or on-line:<br />

Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the Department <strong>of</strong><br />

Education. Financial aid and scholarship information is<br />

included with the IIT application for admission. International<br />

transfer students do not submit a FAFSA. Each admitted<br />

international student is reviewed for IIT scholarship eligibility<br />

To accept IIT’s <strong>of</strong>fer <strong>of</strong> admission, students must return the account and will go toward the cost <strong>of</strong> attendance. The<br />

Enrollment Confirmation Form and a non-refundable $100 Enrollment Confirmation Form is sent to every admitted<br />

matriculation deposit. The deposit is credited to the student’s student.<br />
