Laser Metrology: The
New Wave, continued from page 97
SEMA-member company Coverking
employs coordinate measurement machine
(CMM) laser cloud scanning to help revolutionize
its custom covers.
However, Gupta conceded that
creating a perfect fit for customers
currently has a hefty price tag for
Coverking. The machinery cost about
$120,000 plus $20,000 for software.
Then, there was the cost of a dedicated
employee to operate the equipment.
“It’s an expensive proposition relatively
speaking, but the way we look at
it, we’re really pioneering a new product
and market,” Gupta concluded.
“Everyone who’s seen one of these
covers—there’s no question they want
one. The product is creating a demand
just because it was not available before.”
