Tire Review Top Shop Winner Honored Revealed Monday night as the winner of the 2012 Tire Review Top Shop Award, presented by Ammco/Coats, was Chapel Hill Tire Car Care Center from Chapel Hill, N.C. With their winner’s check for $1,500 were co-owners Britt and Marc Pons (center), with Tire Review editor Jim Smith (far left) and publisher David Moniz (far right). New TIA President Looks to Greater Cooperation New TIA President Randy Groh wants to continue building a stronger relationship with the RMA, and has set his sights on two major industry issues as potential building blocks. During TIA’s annual general meeting Monday in Las Vegas, Groh said that TIA will work to put forth a “recommended practice” regarding how tire dealers should handle the “tire aging issue,” and plans to help develop guidelines on the safe sale of used tires. It marked the first time TIA specifically stated that it would tackle either controversial topic, both of which have been of concern for many years. Groh said that while TIA would prefer “to educate, not legislate,” it recognizes that the industry would be better served if it and the RMA took a leadership role in creating legislation regarding proper tire repairs. Each spot comes with a three-year term. Roy Littlefield, TIA executive vice president, noted that, “This election year had the highest number of candidates in TIA’s recent history, with 23 vying for the board positions.
