SEMA Mustang Build Powered by Women Unveiled The SEMA Mustang Build Powered by Women, better known as “High Gear,” made its debut on the opening day of the 2012 SEMA Show. The vehicle can be viewed in the Ford booth #22200 until Show close on Friday. The ’13 Mustang GT made national headlines during the summer when more than 40 women volunteered their time and expertise to customize the vehicle in less than two months. The vehicle will now be auctioned to raise funds for the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund. Toyota Dream Build Winner Kyle Busch (center) and his “Rowdy Edition” Toyota Camry were named the winners of the Toyota Dream Build Challenge at a media event yesterday emceed by roving auto racing analyst Rutledge Wood (right) here at the SEMA Show. In the Challenge, four teams, fronted by world-class drivers and gearheads, faced off to create customized versions of chosen Toyota vehicles. From October 20–29, fans logged into the Challenge’s website to vote for their favorite team while registering to win a grand prize featuring an exclusive race experience at a NASCAR or NHRA event. Busch’s charity foundation garnered a $50,000 donation from Toyota. Runners-up won donations of $25,000, $15,000 and $10,000, respectively, for their favored charities. Beanco Technology LLC, Booth #37195 Beanco Technology is launching Mobile Home, the patent-pending ultimate iPhone companion for the car. Mobile Home connects your car’s existing hands-free system and Apple’s Siri virtual assistant. Unlike current Bluetooth hands-free kits, Mobile Home allows drivers to command Siri through the in-car microphone and hear his or her response through the car’s speakers. It’s like driving with Siri in the passenger seat. Keyless start allows drivers to keep keys in their pocket while Mobile Home allows drivers to keep the iPhone in their pocket. Hyundai Motor America, Booth #24387 Inspired by Hyundai’s successful RE:MIX Lab program, Hyundai introduced a special-edition RE:MIX production Veloster to the enthusiast crowd at this year’s SEMA Show. The specialedition production Veloster features an aggressive sporty exterior appearance with a unique body kit and gunmetal-finish alloy wheels, while the interior is enhanced with a premium audio system. Truly a “re-mix,” this Veloster is a cool blend of exclusive features and options that create a distinctive lifestyle offering from Hyundai. Campbell Hausfeld, Booth #10218 Campbell Hausfeld President Terry Atwater presented the company’s new approach to delivering high-performing air and power equipment to the automotive market. Programs unveiled included a comprehensive CH Commercial compressor lineup with 25 models across a Shop Air Series, Tire and Lube Series, Paint and Body Series and Service Truck Series; its first-ever rotary screw air compressor; a new plasma cutter; and a preview of 22 new air tools to be available in Q1 2013. 3M Automotive Aftermarket, Booth #12227 3M Automotive Aftermarket introduces 3M Trizact 5000 Sanding Discs and Hand Sheets that can help reduce the amount of labor devoted to paint finishing, which will change the process for paint repair. Available in 3-, 5-, and 6-in. sizes, the 5,000-grit damp-sanding disc leaves a sanding pattern so refined that the paint is reflective. It is possible to skip the step of compounding altogether in many cases. The 3M Trizact 5000 is engineered to be used in body shops on fresh paint and can be used to match texture without leveling. Older paint can be improved by using 3M Trizact 5000 discs to eliminate swirls, scratches and oxidation. Hannibal Industries Inc., Booth #10185 Hannibal Industries is showing its custom OEM truck stacks and motorcycle exhaust tube at the 2012 SEMA Show for the first time. The company will premiere its ability to customize exhaust tubing that is flash controlled, cut-to-length with chamfered ends and a bright finish for the automotive industry. Ranging in size from 3.25 to 5 in., the floor samples shown are both raw and fabricated material which is cut, chamfered, deburred, cold rolled and plated.
The 2012 SEMA Show New Products Award Winners SEMA announced the winners of the New Products Awards on the opening day of the 2012 SEMA Show. Presented during the Show’s New Products Awards Breakfast, the awards spotlight innovative and cutting-edge automotive products either on the market or about to be introduced. Automotive designer Chip Foose, whose popular series “Overhaulin’” recently returned with an all-new season on Velocity, provided the keynote for the event. The awards are presented in 16 categories, and the judges’ criteria for selection included quality and craftsmanship, technical achievement, marketability and consumer appeal.
