DRIVING
TECH TIPS
THE IMPORTANCE OF ALSO INSPECTING YOUR FERRARI
AFTER A TRACK EVENT
An item that can make your next track experience run even
smoother but not normally mentioned in the past, is having a post track
inspection performed on your Ferrari. There are many items that were in good
condition at the beginning of the weekend that can be used up or worn out
after the weekend. Running hard on the race track for two days puts a lot of
wear on the tires. An inspection of your tires can save you scrambling to find
fresh tires at the last minute before the next event. It’s also a safety issue for
your car being driven on the street after an event because of the danger of a
tire failure from a worn out tread or the chance of a skid while driving in the
rain. If your brakes got hot enough that the petal is not as firm as before the
event they should be bled. Brake pads are subject to a lot of hard use and
abuse during a track weekend and checking them for wear afterwards can
save you being turned down at your next tech inspection. The safety of the
car being driven on the street before the next track meet is an even more
important issue. Running the engine at its limit for two long track days also
subjects it to more than normal heat and wear. Seals and oil hoses exposed
to the excessive heat can begin to leak, so should be inspected after each
event. If you experienced excessive oil temperatures while driving on the
track, the oil should be changed. When the excitement of your last track
experience wears off, help insure that your next time out will run smoother
and safer by having a thorough post-event inspection performed on your car.
