In the mid 1900’s, Americans’ love affair with the automobile was in full swing.
Cars were quickly becoming the staple of every man’s transportation, and the automobile
was fully engrained into American culture. Auto manufacturers’ designs ranged from the
spacious to the outrageous, and everything in between.
And then things got kicked up a notch.
In the spring of 1954, the very first Ferrari GT made its way to the United States,
arrived in New York City, and gave Americans a first-hand taste of the traditions that international
Ferraristi had savored for many years.
A race driver, entrepreneur and personal friend of Enzo Ferrari, Luigi Chinetti was
instrumental in bringing the marque to the US. When he became the official Ferrari representative
in the United States, he knew that the legacy of these cars would carry across
the Atlantic and capture the hearts of thousands of aficionados.
Chinetti’s love of cars began many years earlier. Initially a mechanic, Chinetti easily
took the wheel for Alfa-Romeo, winning both the 1932 24-Hours of Le Mans and the
1933 24-Hours of Spa-Francorchamps. He later joined another race team and traveled to
the U.S. in 1939 and 1940 to participate in his first Indianapolis 500 races as chief mechanic.
After WWII, he returned to France and opened a Ferrari garage in Paris, obtaining fame
and success competing with the Ferrari 166 (016). In fact, in 1949, Chinetti again won 24
Hours at Le Mans, this time in a Ferrari 166MM.
After moving to the US in the early 1950s and introducing the car to American audiences,
Chinetti established the North American Racing Team (NART) which regularly engaged
Ferraris in many great racing venues. In 1956, at Chinetti’s insistence, his friend Enzo Ferrari
agreed to make a second attempt at the Indianapolis 500 (his first attempt in 1954 proving
BREAKING NEW GROUND: 50 YEARS OF SUCCESS
unsuccessful as the entered Ferrari did not qualify.) The goal,
besides nostalgic or sentimental, was to further promote the
Ferrari name in the United States. Just a decade later, Chinetti
again convinced Ferrari to build for him the first genuine
Daytona competition car, a special lightweight GTB/4 for
1969's Le Mans 24 Hours.
Luigi Chinetti’s close personal friendship no doubt had
a major impact on Enzo Ferrari’s decision to entrust him
with representing the marque in the United States. As a
result of Chinetti’s love for the car and relentless promotion, the
United States is today Ferrari’s largest market in terms of sales,
half a century after its official debut. In 2003, its 11th consecutive
year of growth, 1,350 Ferraris were delivered to clients.
To commemorate this momentous anniversary, all
Ferraris sold in the USA this year will carry a special logo
with the US flag. The special badge combines the
black prancing horse symbol on a yellow
background, with the stars and stripes flag
to create the number 50.
FERRARIS AT DISNEY
INAUGURAL CELEBRATION EXOTIC CAR FESTIVAL RAISES OVER $30,000 FOR MAKE-A-WISH
The first annual Celebration Exotic Car Festival was an overwhelming success, with great fun
had by all that attended. The event was held the weekend of May 22-23, 2004, in the Disney-built town
of Celebration, Florida, and more than $30,000 was raised and donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The weekend started Friday, with many participants and their families arriving early to enjoy
the perfect weather and countless entertainment options and theme parks offered around the
Disney area. Exotic cars of every description flooded the streets and waterside boardwalk of the
quaint town center. Celebration is the quintessential “ideal American small town” envisioned by Walt
Disney decades ago, and was modeled on the actual original plans for EPCOT (“Experimental
Prototype Community of Tomorrow”) Dedicated in 1996, Celebration is now home to 12,000 people.
Its charming 1940’s America persona and waterfront town center, complete with brick streets and
sidewalk cafes and shops, made a perfect setting for the concours event.
After a day of fun at the parks, participants headed back to the elegant Celebration Hotel, and
started Saturday evening’s black tie gala at a cocktail reception and silent auction to benefit Make-A-
Wish. Sipping champagne and enjoying sushi, silent bids were taken on an impressive array of auction
items, including autographed Schumacher and Barrichello items, sports and movie memorabilia,
Formula 1 tickets, Pirelli Tires, electronic equipment, vacations, golf outings, artwork and jewelry.
The evening continued with a five star dinner, dancing, and entertainment in the hotels
main ballroom. A highlight was the live auction for a $20.00 bill, which to everyone’s amusement,
resulted in a bidding war between local Ferrari Maserati dealer, Onfrio Triarsi, and local Lamborghini
dealer, Monte Patterson. Ultimately won by Mr. Patterson (who paid $150.00 for the $20.00 bill!), Mr.
Triasi also donated his second highest bid to the charity. The evening continued with most everyone
crowding the dance floor well into the night.
The next morning, the peaceful quiet of the town was interrupted by the music of exotic car
engines. Over 100 cars participated in the concours, representing almost every Ferrari model
(from a 1957 410 Superamerica to two new Enzos), Maserati (including two stunning birdcage
race cars), Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Lotus, and an impressive gathering of Panteras and
DeLoreans. The streets and boardwalk lined with seemingly endless exotic cars thrilled
over 10,000 spectators that attended the event.
Judging was presided over by new FCA National Chief Judge Chris
Current and his wife, FCA Executive Director Pat, who flew down to the event from
Washington. Beautiful class awards were given to the winners, as they drove
their prized possessions up to the podium for all to see, Pebble Beach style.
Top honors went to Steve Patterson, who took home the
Exceptional Merit Trophy for his Ferrari F50 (which he drove
to the event from Naples,) and Wayne Nelson, who was
awarded Best In Show for his stunning 1957 Ferrari 410
Superamerica.
Presented by Ferrari Maserati of Central Florida, the
event was sponsored by Ultimate Motorworks, Aston Martin of
Tampa, Putnam Leasing, Cingular Wireless, McNally Homes,
TubiStyle USA and Parts Depot. The focus of the event, to
raise money for Make-A-Wish, was an astounding success,
and six Florida children with life threatening illnesses were
granted wishes because of the generosity and support of
the sponsors, participants, and the event committee.
Welcome to the
awesome “garage” of
Steve Patterson!
FLORIDA “DELIGHTS” PT 2: NAPLES
Tucked away in a quiet and exclusive residential area in Naples is a
small piece of Ferrari heaven, an exquisite Italian style villa the exterior of which
gives no clue to the delights within. Those of you who know, and have visited,
Steve and Jan Patterson’s home will know exactly what I am talking about!
Steve is not only an arch
Ferrari enthusiast but also someone
with an appreciation of style and
good taste, whether it be architecture,
décor, furnishings, or the latest
in high technology equipment, of
which his intimate knowledge and
numerous hands-on skills produce
some startling results. A visit to the
villa is an experience in itself, and
you can’t help but notice the stunning
and vibrant original works of
the motoring artist Alfredo de la
Maria, along with magnificent
bronze motoring sculptures by J.
Paul Nesse around the salons.
However, it is only when
you go down the hallway towards the
“garage” that you begin to realise
that there is something a little special
Ferrari-wise here! As you pass the
window on your left to the pool area
with its Romanesque fountain, you
are greeted by the sight of floor to
ceiling illuminated display cases
housing row upon row of hand-built
Ferrari models, a 1/43 scale history
of the marque, together with shelves
bearing a fine selection of memorabilia.
You could pass many happy
hours in this area alone, admiring the
vast array of beautifully detailed
models before you.
It is when you pass
through the door from the model
display that the many facetted
technical and aesthetic skills that
Steve possesses really come to
the fore in “his area” – the garage!
He is understandably very proud of what lies within and likes first time visitors to
come after dusk, so that they can enjoy his special “treat.” So as not to spoil it for
those who have never experienced the “treat,” I will just say that you start in darkness
then get a spectacular son et lumiere, that is constantly being fine tuned to
even greater spectacle, that makes you clap spontaneously when the show is
over and the garage is flooded in light.
So we come to the cars! Six of them, all Rosso
Corsa and gleaming in a row side-by-side stretching away
from you. There is a complete set of Ferrari Supercars, a 288
GTO, an F40, an F50 and an Enzo,
the latest addition to the stable.
There is also a Testa Rossa replica,
one of a pair commissioned by ex-
Ferrari F1 driver, the late Innes
Ireland, in England on 330 GT 2+2
chassis’. When Steve acquired this
one he wasn’t happy with the overall
build quality, so entrusted the
mechanical fettling to Al Roberts at
Shelton Ferrari, and the body rectification
work to the metal working
magic of Ron Sparling. The final car
in the line-up is a 275 GTB, with
some unusual body modifications,
the source of which are still a mystery.
It has circular driving lights
recessed into the front apron below
the headlights, and the tail has been
altered to provide a more pronounced
lip spoiler, whilst the standard
rear bumper has been
replaced by a smaller unit that follows
the lower edge of the tail panel
recess. This car was formerly owned
by Mark Lindsay, the lead singer
with the rock band Paul Revere and
the Raiders, who apparently still has
happy memories of escapades on
Mullholland Drive in the car.
The garage is also home to a
further cabinet with even nicer (if
that is possible) 1/43 scale handbuilt
models, a pair of engines on
purpose made display stands, from
a Boxer and a 365 GTB/4, and further
J. Paul Nesse sculptures. The
high level walls are adorned with
original illuminated Ferrari garage
signs and specially lit works by Alfredo de la Maria, the
sum being a visual treat for the Ferrari enthusiast.
If you know Steve and Jan, and are in the Naples
area, a begging letter is certainly worth the effort, it really
is a “hidden delight” that will enthral you!

EXPERIENCE
DRIVING
TECH TIPS
THE IMPORTANCE OF ALSO INSPECTING YOUR FERRARI
AFTER A TRACK EVENT
An item that can make your next track experience run even
smoother but not normally mentioned in the past, is having a post track
inspection performed on your Ferrari. There are many items that were in good
condition at the beginning of the weekend that can be used up or worn out
after the weekend. Running hard on the race track for two days puts a lot of
wear on the tires. An inspection of your tires can save you scrambling to find
fresh tires at the last minute before the next event. It’s also a safety issue for
your car being driven on the street after an event because of the danger of a
tire failure from a worn out tread or the chance of a skid while driving in the
rain. If your brakes got hot enough that the petal is not as firm as before the
event they should be bled. Brake pads are subject to a lot of hard use and
abuse during a track weekend and checking them for wear afterwards can
save you being turned down at your next tech inspection. The safety of the
car being driven on the street before the next track meet is an even more
important issue. Running the engine at its limit for two long track days also
subjects it to more than normal heat and wear. Seals and oil hoses exposed
to the excessive heat can begin to leak, so should be inspected after each
event. If you experienced excessive oil temperatures while driving on the
track, the oil should be changed. When the excitement of your last track
experience wears off, help insure that your next time out will run smoother
and safer by having a thorough post-event inspection performed on your car.
THE FAMILY THAT CONCOURS TOGETHER,STAYS TOGETHER
Ok ladies, do you want to participate in the
Ferrari hobby with your guy but aren’t quite ready to
hit the track? Having just finished getting the 550
ready for the first Disney concours, it occurred to
me that preparing and showing a Ferrari, or any car
for that matter, is something a husband and wife
team can do together. Now that we have a number
of serious concours here in Florida, I thought it was
about time that I wrote an article about the art of
preparing and showing a car.
First you need to have a plan. This planning
stage needs to start months or perhaps even a year
in advance. The last time we showed the Dino at
Cavallino we started in September. Planning
includes just looking over your car. Deciding what
needs to be cleaned and what is good to go. Make a
list of everything you need to get done. If pieces
need to be painted or plated allow time to get this
accomplished. Once you get your plan and timeline
down, double it! Jobs that look simple can sometimes
turn into frantic calls to your friendly
neighborhood mechanic.
Trust me, I have been
there, done that.
The next step is the
actual preparation. I’d recommend
starting at one
end of the car and working
towards the other. We usually
start at the front and
work to the back. The main
areas on the Dino would be
the front compartment, interior,
engine compartment,
trunk, exterior, and the undercarriage.
You can divide these
areas up so you might be
working on one area while your significant
other is working on another, although
there are times when you will be working
in the same area.
In most cars detailing the engine
will take the most time. The good thing
about working in an engine compartment
ladies, is that you don’t have to
know how the thing works to clean it.
The bad thing is that new French manicure
is not going to last long. The
solution is gloves. Surgical gloves will keep
your hands clean and protect your skin. So many
guys are using gloves now that a lot of automotive stores keep
them in stock. If you have access to compressed air, you’ll need to
blow all the loose grit, grime and sand out of the enclosure. Watch
out as this stuff will really fly around; a mask and eye protection are
a must. After the loose stuff is gone, get out the old elbow grease
and get going. I would recommend using a mild solvent such as
mineral spirits for cleaning. Just remember to start with the top of
the engine and work down, you know what and mineral spirits all
flow downhill. Q-tips, soft brushes, gauze squares, hemostats, and
a small bowl to hold you cleaning solution are the basics of our
cleaning kit. Some folks prefer to use spray on engine cleaners, but
since we’ve never used them I can’t advise you on this approach.
Another place that is quite time consuming, and is a nasty
little job to boot, is the undercarriage. Like the engine compartment
a good blow of compressed air will start the process. Tires
and fender wells may need to be removed and cleaning of suspension
parts with mineral spirits or brake cleaning fluid is in order.
Plan to spend more time here than you expect. In some cases
painting of fender wells may need to be done. This can be accomplished
without sending them to the painter.
A good leather care product for the interior is a must.
There are several on the market but make sure you don’t use
Armorall on interior services. Armorall is a good product, just save
it for the exterior. Give the interior glass a good cleaning, vacuum
the carpets and clean out the glove box out and you are done here.
Exterior paint is of course key. Like the old saying goes, “you
never get a second chance to make a good first impression.” Ladies,
your guys have probably done extensive research on wax and
have their favorite so don’t pick up Turtle Wax at Wal-Mart for him.
Modern Ferrari’s have little chrome but the Dino, in comparison,
has a lot. I use a lot of different metal cleaners such as
Flitz, Semi-Chrome, and yes a Turtle Wax product simply called
Chrome Polish.
Now that your baby is spic and span you have two jobs
left. Practice the showing of your car. Yes, and this goes for you
too guys, practice turning your car on, operating the lights, the turn
signals and the like. You will be asked to operate you car so make
sure you are familiar with all those knobs and switches. On more
than one occasion I have seen owners not know or panic and forget
how to operate their car.
Your last job will be to collect cleaning supplies to take to
the show with you. I would suggest purchasing a big plastic tub in
which to transport your material. Towels, glass cleaner, brushes
and anything you might need at the last minute should be taken
with you to the concours.
Now I know what you are thinking. Why should you go to
all this trouble if dirt is not suppose to count against you in a concours?
If you believe this little fable, then I have some nice Florida
land to sell you and it’s dry, most of the year. In other words, when
was the last time you saw a dirty car win a concours?
2003 REPORT
The Ferrari Maserati Group
reports 7,077 cars were
delivered to end clients in
2003 as opposed to 7,536 in
2002. Ferrari’s delivery figure
was in line with the previous
year’s (4,238 as against
4,236 in 2002). Maserati’s
financial year, on the other
hand, was heavily influenced
by the downturn in its Coupé
and Spyder segments,
which shrank by as much as
10.2% and 50% respectively.
In total, Maserati sold 2,839
cars to end clients in 2003
compared to 3,300 in 2002.

CELEBRATION EXOTIC CAR FESTIVAL
BY DAVID WILLIAMS
Am I the only one who can’t believe that 2004 is already about half
over? It’s been an action packed year so far, and we’re only just getting started!
I hope everyone fully realizes just how lucky we are to live and work in a
state where year-round motoring activities are the norm. I’m continually
amazed at how no matter where I turn, weather it be at one of our events, or
just driving along the beach on a Sunday, this entire state seems to be nothing
if not one huge car show. We all know it’s pretty cool to drive a Ferrari to
your favorite restaurant or even just out for ice cream, but when you arrive,
you’re just as likely to see not only other Ferraris, but other exotics of all
makes, models and eras. It’s great! I hope you always keep your eyes open
to the endless number of exciting cars driving around our state. Be sure to
give them a thumbs-up. We’re all just car guys at heart, out doing what we
love. With summer coming up any day now, there’s no excuse not to get out
there and enjoy your Ferraris, and let others enjoy them too. That’s the reason
we own them, that’s what it’s all about. What a waste to leave our beautiful
cars (and choppers!) locked away in garages when the rest of the world
can only wish they had the roads and scenery that we have here!
Since we last spoke, most of us attended our blow-out Sebring
Spring Spectacular back in April and more recently the inaugural Ferraris at
Disney event. The Sebring event was our largest spring event ever with over
90 cars registered for the track and who knows how many more lurking
around the paddock. On Friday we passed 20 people through our famous
Pete Argetsinger driving school. I think this is great, not only for the improved
knowledge and skills now possessed by those 20 lucky graduates, but in the
end it’s safer for all of us out on the track. Don’t ever think of our schools as
being for “first-timers” only, any time you can ride with and learn from a professional
instructor it’s never a waste of your time.
The whole weekend was outstanding. Forgetting the fact that we had
completely perfect weather and owned one of the world’s most famous race
tracks for 2 full days, we also enjoyed free use of incredibly fun go-karts
brought for us by our friends at Racers Country Club in Miami. There was also
a free cocktail party, a super-fun Friday night party, and a Saturday night banquet
complete with awards, a piano player and sing-alongs! I don’t know
about you, but I’m pretty sure that was a first for me. Our traditional low-pressure
Sunday concours was well attended with a wide range of street and race
cars and as always proves to be the perfect send-off for our drives home.
Of course this great event could never have gotten off the ground
without the generous support of Ferrari-Maserati of Central Florida in
Orlando. Others who contributed greatly were 1st Class Auto Body, Pirelli,
Putnam, and Tubi. Please support these guys whenever you can as without
their support of us, we’d all be sitting at home a lot more often.
Complete Sebring event coverage begins on the very next page of
this issue. I’d like to point out that the article was written for us by a new face
to our Florida Region family, Stacey Atlas. Stacey’s take on the weekend is
terrific and told with a very fresh slant. We really appreciate her contribution!
Also a huge thanks to all of you who responded to our e-mail request by sending
in your own photos of the event, we credited all of you on page 4.
Jeff Ippoliti wrote a great piece on the Ferraris at Disney concours
and the hugely successful Saturday night banquet and auction, all held for the
benefit of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. You’d have never known this was a
first-year event. The crowds, the music,
and the incredibly eclectic collection of
exotic machinery made for a very
smooth and professional experience.
Jeff put a ton of time into getting this
one done right and it showed from
every angle. We’re lucky to have him.
Hopefully anyone who missed it will
come out and take part in next year’s
event. Please read Jeff’s full story on
page 11 with more photos on page 17.
Coming up next for us is a
weekend of kicking back at the world
famous Cheeca Lodge way down in
Islamorada, July 23-25. This weekend
is strictly for fun, but we sure hope you’ll
drive your Ferraris there anyway. By
now you’ve all received an e-mail or
two with registration details, which in
fact are as simple as placing a phone
call. You can also find all the information
you’ll need in here on page 9, or by
checking our website.
We’re back again at Sebring
on September 24-26 for a hard-core
track weekend. Sure we’ll also sneak in
a Saturday night banquet and a few
other surprises, but this one’s for the
track guys. There’s a separate registration
form somewhere in this yellow
envelope. We’ll also be sending out email
reminders over the next few weeks.
Also coming up on the horizon
this fall is a super evening party at
Ragtops in downtown West Palm.
We’re going to pull out all the stops on
this one. We’ll keep any costs real low
and load you up with the usual surprises.
You must bring your car though! We
want to pack the place. It’ll really be a
great night, so please look for details to
come real soon.
We’re also working on putting
together a karting event at Moroso’s
brand new .9 mile purpose-built karting
track. You can also look for another
evening social with our friends down at
JMB Racing. Many of you have been
asking us to repeat last year’s successful
party at their race shop. Stay tuned!
My car crazed weekend was definitely one for the
books. You’re hearing straight from a girl that moved to Florida
and parked her Honda alongside her boyfriend’s beautiful and
luxurious red F355 GTS. Talk about disgust, he saw to it that my
Honda was removed from his property in less than a week!
Consequently, I found myself learning to drive a stick in his
Ferrari. Sooooo…given my background you can now understand
what my expectations were for my upcoming weekend in
Sebring. Just a little bit intimidating!
I needed help. First things first…I quickly surfed the
web for previous Ferrari Club events and scanned all the car
stuff. Having limited knowledge when it comes to Ferraris, I
decided to focus my attention elsewhere. Maybe if I packed the
right attire, I would just blend in with all the avid car lovers. I
stuffed two bags for the 3 day event and thought I had it pretty
well covered. Oops, I guess one will have to do, forgot about
helmets, driving suits etc., all in that spacious Ferrari trunk!
As we close in on Sebring, it strikes me as how odd it is
that such a racing mecca is located here, really not close to anything.
It’s just a big surprise when suddenly the track comes in view
with a very attractive hotel on sight. Thanks to Don Panoz a few
years ago this has been turned into a real racer’s and fan’s delight.
I’m a little uneasy as we pull up to the Chateau Elan,
base camp for the next three days. Even though it was fairly
early on Thursday, there were already a couple of dozen
Ferraris. I think more than we had in all of Louisville! Ferrari of
Central Florida was already set up in the parking lot to "tech" the
cars. These guys were ready for everything! Since we had
already had a tech at Shelton, FCF was able to finish the job
while we unloaded the car! Talk about service! We met about
three couples in the first five minutes. Excitement was everywhere
and I was beginning to feel at ease.
Happy hour! No wonder Dan insisted on getting to
Sebring early. Once inside, I realized these people were here
not only to drive their precious machines, but to enjoy themselves
as well. The drinks and conversation were flowing faster
than two Enzos. Who said car guys don’t party? They just know
the limit! After dining on a virtual cornucopia of food at the buffet,
it was time to call it a night. I turned in feeling welcome
among the car nuts.
Friday and Saturday were two days quite the same.
Cars, speed, food, drinks, great conversations with new friends.
Wow! Both days started with the obligatory drivers meeting
mixed with "track food." The drivers school gang split off, honing
their skills under the always fast and knowledgeable Peter
Argetsinger. I’ve been told by good authority that if you’ve never
had the experience of being tutored by Peter, you’re just plain
missing out. Finally, what everyone has been waiting for,
"TRACK TIME." There was no shortage of track time; 30 minute
intervals of touring, school and sport groups. The second the drivers
pulled their Ferraris and Maseratis from the pits, the adrenaline
junkies were feeling at home.
Many of us took full advantage of Chateau Elan’s new
drive-up registration facilities.
Look, I don’t care how they’ve done it in the past. Just because
we’re at Sebring doesn’t mean every tradition is sacred!

OK, that’s 4 down. Heck, this is easy...
I’ll pick up the spare on my next lap!
See, is says right here... No matter how hot it
gets, you must wear your leather jacket all day.
For the onlooker/passenger like myself there was plenty of
entertainment. There was ample time to check out the phenomenal
cars up and down pit road. (Sebring’s mini-museum!) From 333’s to
Maserati birdcages and everything in between. When the touring group
came up, it was my opportunity to play the role of adrenaline junkie,
especially through the hairpin!
And don’t forget the go-karts! Racer’s Country Club gave me
the chance to show my expertise. Maybe I still can’t drive a stick or the
shifter karts, but I did get a chance to squeal my tires and even spin -
out once! I definitely felt that I maximized my time at the track.
I do want to mention a few highlights of my Sebring weekend.
First, it amazed me how many female drivers took to the track. For
example, Bonnie in her 308, and Monica in her beautiful blue Maserati.
They sure impressed me! Monica did want to stress the importance of
track insurance as she now has a beautiful black Maserati. Thanks
Brian for being a sport at Saturday night’s dinner even after trying to
restyle his bodywork. And of course there was Eddie Smith. He may
need assistance fastening his helmet, but once in the car he sure can
drive! What a ladies man too. How many women did he promise a
dance? I’m still waiting in line!
Saturday night brought more awesome food and entertainment.
Jeff entertained us all with his wit and charm, and for those of us who rallied,
we lined up for midnight Enzo rides thanks to Ray! Wow what a night!
Finally, Sunday morning brought recovery. One last concours
spread out over the Chateau Elan lawn, together with a breakfast buffet
wrapped up the fun-filled weekend. I can now say that I am truly
developing an appreciation for these fine cars and amazing group of
people. I can’t wait for next year!!
I don’t know why they
call it The Pits, it’s
actually quite cozy!
I’ll say it for the last
time... that coffee’s
gotta have a lid!
Florida Redline 5
While some would say that the action was on the
track, Paulie B and his Posse might beg to differ.
I know I promised you a ride. That’s not the point.
But my seat still isn’t dry from the last time!

To Ray’s disbelief, that 348 passed both Enzos
like they were standing still!
Board with the pit wall, Paulie now naps in his pit
The key to a successful
life is all about being
seen in the right places!
No, keep going. When I
feel it with my thumb,
I’ll let you know.
This is a weekend for relaxing with your friends! Umbrellas in the drinks and toes in
the sand! No concours, no rallies, no speeches! Just us and of course a few Ferraris.
The itinerary is as informal as our surroundings:
Friday: Registration and cocktails (cash bar) at 5 (...hey, it can’t all be free!)
Saturday: The Cheeca’s amazing breakfast buffet from 8 -10. After, we’ll convoy to the
nearby Dolphin Research Center on Grassy Key for a few unforgettable hours learning
about and enjoying their many hands-on marine displays and sea shows (pay as you
go). Lunch on your own. Somewhere around 2, any of us not already firmly entrenched
into a hammock will head further south to Pigeon Key. Spend the afternoon strolling
around the shops and sands, or taking in a relaxing buggy ride. Back at the Cheeca,
sip a few more evening cocktails (cash bar) starting around 7, followed by a traditional
tropical Keys dinner buffet at 8, served for us right on the sand amid swaying palms
and tiki torches. Beautiful sunset included.
Sunday: Another mountainous Cheeca breakfast buffet from 8 - 11, which if we’re lucky
and technology has finally reached the islands, will include a private live viewing of the
German Grand Prix. After that is anyone’s guess. Some will head north, others south.
All will have had an awesome time.
Registration couldn’t be easier, just call Melissa at (386)566-2412 and charge $25 a
head onto your Visa, MC, or AmEx. That’s it! If you plan on driving your Ferrari, please
let Jay Weitzel know via e-mail (janddweitzel@bellsouth.net). Jay’s arranged for special
reserved Ferrari parking for us everywhere we go so there is no excuse not to treat your
car to those incredible stretches of highway!
Hotel reservations at the Cheeca can be made by calling them directly at (800)327-2888.
We have a choice of their newly renovated deluxe lodge rooms or beach-side bungalows.
Prices have been reduced for us starting at $300 per night, mention the Ferrari Summer
Soiree. These prices include everything from golf to tennis to parasailing, fishing and all
the beach toys. Call the Cheeca’s Avanyu Spa to make your massage or salt scrub reservation,
(305)517-4485. We get you in, your on your own for the rest. Call Now as these
prices are only good thru June 23. After that it’s rooms as available only, so don’t wait!

TO YOU, IT’S MORE THAN JUST A CAR.
SO GET MORE THAN JUST A TIRE.
If you’re driven by passion and commitment, here’s the perfect tire for the drive.
