The surname <strong>of</strong> WILK.IE carries (almost the same with the surname <strong>of</strong> Carmichael)<br />
urgent, a fesse \vreathcd, azure -dndgu/es, betwixt a crescent in chief, and a -<br />
cinque<br />
-toil in base <strong>of</strong> the second, as- in .Workman's MS.<br />
The surminu- <strong>of</strong> ELDER, argent, A fesse wreathed, gulfs and zrrf, between two<br />
mullets in chief, and a crescent in base <strong>of</strong> the second, in Blazons.-<br />

MURE <strong>of</strong> Caldwell, descended <strong>of</strong> the Mures <strong>of</strong> Abercorn in West Lothian, ar-<br />
gent, on a fesse azure, three stars <strong>of</strong> the first, within a bordurc ingrailed gules,<br />
which stand illuminate in the house <strong>of</strong> Fala-hull.<br />
MURE <strong>of</strong> Glanderston, descended <strong>of</strong> Caldwell, carries the same with Caldwell,<br />
with a crescent in base gules, for a brotherly difference.<br />
ARCHIBALD MURK <strong>of</strong> Riccartoun, sometime Provost <strong>of</strong> Edinburgh, descended <strong>of</strong><br />
the family. <strong>of</strong> Caldwell, carries as Caldwell ; but, for his difference, ingrails both<br />
the fesse and bordure ; and for crest, a savage's head and neck from the shoulders,<br />
and about the temples <strong>of</strong> the head a wreath <strong>of</strong> laurel, proper : motto, Duris non<br />
frangor.<br />
Mr JAMES MURE, Parson <strong>of</strong> Philorth, argent, on a fesse azure, three mullets or,<br />
and in base a book expanded, proper : motto, Ora 1$ labora. L. R.<br />
BOSWELL <strong>of</strong> Glassmont, descended <strong>of</strong> the family <strong>of</strong> Balmuto, quarterly, first and<br />
fourth argent, on a fesse invected sable, three cinquefoils <strong>of</strong> the first ; second and<br />
third or, a lion rampant gules, surmounted <strong>of</strong> a ribbon sable, for Abernethy ; so recorded<br />
in the Lyon Register ; with the motto, Nothing venture nothing have.<br />
Where are also, without a crest, the arms <strong>of</strong> Boswell <strong>of</strong> Dowen, another cadet <strong>of</strong><br />
Balmuto, being the quartered coat <strong>of</strong> that family within a bordure indented gules :<br />
motto, I hope for better.<br />
The surname <strong>of</strong> WEIR is ancient with us, as Sir James Dalrymple observes in his<br />
Collections.<br />
RUNULPHUS DE WEIR, is mentioned in the registers <strong>of</strong> Kelso, Paisley, and Murray,<br />
to have lived in the reign <strong>of</strong> King William, and Thomas de Weir in the<br />
reign <strong>of</strong> Alexander II. Of this surname there are several families in Clydesdale,<br />
the two principal <strong>of</strong> which are those <strong>of</strong> Blackwood and Stonebyres.<br />
Sir GEOROE WEIR <strong>of</strong> Blackwood, argent, on a fesse, azure, three stars <strong>of</strong> thp<br />
first, with the badge <strong>of</strong> Nova Scotia in the dexter chief point, as the Knights Baronets<br />
use and for ; crest, a demi-horse in armour, proper, issuing out <strong>of</strong> a wreath<br />
<strong>of</strong> his tinctures, bridled and saddled : gules and for motto, Nihil verius. His grandfather<br />
was <strong>of</strong> the name <strong>of</strong> Lawrie, who married the heiress <strong>of</strong> Weir <strong>of</strong> Blackwood,<br />
and took upon him the name and arms <strong>of</strong> Weir.<br />
The surname <strong>of</strong> M'Micma, sable, a fesse betwixt, three crescents or Font's<br />
MS. And, in the same Book, the arms <strong>of</strong> the surname <strong>of</strong> LKCKY, argent, on a<br />
fesse vert, three roses <strong>of</strong> the first ; but, in Crawfurd's MS. lx:cky <strong>of</strong> that Ilk, ar-<br />
gent, a cheveron betwixt three roses gules.<br />
Sir WILLIAM CRAIGIE <strong>of</strong> Gearsay in Orkney, a family <strong>of</strong> an old standing there,<br />
carries ermine, a boar's head couped gules, armed and languid or ; and for crest, a<br />
boar passant urgent, armed and langued azure: motto, Timor omnis abest, as in the<br />
Lyon Register.<br />
LAURENCE CRAir.iE <strong>of</strong> Kilgraston, parted per pale, azure and sable, a cheveron<br />
argent, between three crescents or ; crest, a pillar proper : motto, SccuruM presidium.<br />
JOHN CRAIGIE <strong>of</strong> Dumbarnie, parted per pale, azure and sable,<br />
grailed argent, between three crescents or : motto, Honeste vivo. L. R.<br />

The surname <strong>of</strong> ROGER, designed <strong>of</strong> that Ilk in Workman's MS. vert on a fe<br />
argent, between three piles<br />
in chief, and a cinquefoil in base <strong>of</strong> the last, a saltier<br />
<strong>of</strong> the first. But Mr Pont, in his Book <strong>of</strong> Blazons, gives to the name <strong>of</strong> Roger<br />
only vert, a fesse argent; and, to another family <strong>of</strong> that name, sable, a stag's head<br />
erased argent, holding in its mouth a mullet or.<br />
