College <strong>of</strong> Justice, whose grandfather was a second son <strong>of</strong> Campbell <strong>of</strong> Lawer.^<br />
who was descended <strong>of</strong> the first son <strong>of</strong> a second marriage <strong>of</strong> the first laird <strong>of</strong><br />
Glenorchy, who was a second son <strong>of</strong> the family <strong>of</strong> Lochow, now Duke <strong>of</strong> Argyle ;<br />
gironne <strong>of</strong> eight, or and sable, within a bordure embattled vert : Thereafter Sir<br />
Colin used the bordure nebule, and afterwards he caused mark it in the books,<br />
ermine; and altered also his exterior ornaments thus; crest, a demi-lion gardant,<br />
gules; holding in his dexter paw a sword, proper; and in his sinister, two laurel<br />
branches, orle-ways : The old motto was, Ex campo victoria; but since he was one<br />
<strong>of</strong> the Senators <strong>of</strong>, the College <strong>of</strong> Justice, he took for motto, Fictoriam coronat<br />
Christus; and for supporters, two blood hounds collared and leashed, proper.<br />
His son and successor, Sir JAMES CAMPBELL <strong>of</strong> Aberuchill, now carries the same<br />
arms ; but has <strong>of</strong> late, by warrant <strong>of</strong> my Lord Lyon King at Arms, placed the<br />
laurel on the lion's head in his crest ; and in his sinister paw, a Highlander's dag<br />
He married the heiress<br />
or pistol ; with this new motto, Sequitur victoria forteis,<br />
<strong>of</strong> Dempster <strong>of</strong> Pitliver whose armorial ; bearings, with those <strong>of</strong> his own, may be<br />
seen engraved in copperplate, amongst the Plates <strong>of</strong> Achievements.<br />
ROBERT CAMPBELL <strong>of</strong> Glenlyon, whose grandsire's grandfather was the eldest<br />
son <strong>of</strong> a second marriage <strong>of</strong> Sir Duncan Campbell <strong>of</strong> Glenorchy, and his lady a<br />
daughter <strong>of</strong> Douglas Earl <strong>of</strong> Angus, carries quarterly, first and fourth, Campbell ;<br />
secondly, Lorn ; thirdly, Stewart and in the ; centre, a man's heart crowned,<br />
proper, for Douglas Earl <strong>of</strong> Angus ; crest, a demi-lion, holding up by his dexter<br />
paw a heart crowned : motto, ^ute recta sequor.<br />
ALEXANDER CAMPBELL <strong>of</strong> Lochnell, descended <strong>of</strong> the family <strong>of</strong> Argyle, quarterly,<br />
first, Campbell; second, argent; a boar's head erased, azure; armed and<br />
languid gules; third, Lorn, and the fourth as first ; crest, a dexter hand holding a<br />
lance bend-ways, proper : motto, Audacesjuvo.<br />
ALEXANDER CAMPBELL, brother-german <strong>of</strong> Waterhaughs, gironne <strong>of</strong> eight<br />
pieces, ermine and gules, waved ; and a crescent for difference : motto, Tandem<br />

charged with a trefoil, slipped and counter-changed <strong>of</strong> the same ; second and third,<br />

MATTHEW CAMPBELL <strong>of</strong> Waterhaughs, descended <strong>of</strong> the family <strong>of</strong> Loudon ;<br />

lawful son to Sir Robert Campbell <strong>of</strong> Glenorchy the ; quartered arms <strong>of</strong> Glenorchy<br />

JOHN CAMPBELL <strong>of</strong> Moy, Justice and Sheriff-depute <strong>of</strong> Argyle,<br />
descended <strong>of</strong><br />
Campbell <strong>of</strong> Meiklellines, a third son <strong>of</strong> Sir John Campbell <strong>of</strong> Calder ; carries,<br />
Calder's coat as before, within a bordure ingrailed, or; crest, a swan, proper;<br />
crowned, or: motto, Be ever mindful.<br />
Another cadet <strong>of</strong> the family <strong>of</strong> Calder, was Captain JOHN CAMPBELL, being a<br />
third son <strong>of</strong> that ; family whose is grandchild Mr Archbald Campbell, writer in<br />
Edinburgh, and who by his mother is descended <strong>of</strong> Campbell <strong>of</strong> Moy, and carries<br />
the arms <strong>of</strong> W7<br />
