HOME <strong>of</strong> Blackadder, descended <strong>of</strong> John Home, fourth son <strong>of</strong> Home <strong>of</strong> Wedderburn,<br />
who was killed at Flodden, married one <strong>of</strong> the heiresses <strong>of</strong> Blackadder <strong>of</strong><br />
that Ilk. Of whom is lineally descended Sir John Home <strong>of</strong> Blackadder, baronet.<br />
He carries, quarterly, first azure, on a cheveron argent, three roses gules, for Blackadder<br />
a cross<br />

second Home, third Pepdie, fourth Sinclair <strong>of</strong> Herdmanston, argent,<br />
ingrailed azure, supported on the dexter by an otter, and on the sinister by a<br />
falcon, all proper ; crest, an adder sable in pale, holding in its mouth a rose gules,<br />
leaved and stalked vert : motto, Vise a la fin.<br />
HOME <strong>of</strong> Renton, descended <strong>of</strong> Manderston, a younger son <strong>of</strong> Wedderburn. Of<br />
whom is Sir Robert Home <strong>of</strong> Renton, Knight-Baronet, who carries, quarterly,<br />
first Home, second Pepdie, third argent, three hunting-horns sable, stringed gules,<br />
for Forrester ; fourth gules-, a pelican feeding her young argent, vulnered, proper,<br />
for Elme <strong>of</strong> Elmeford, whose heiress they married ; and for crest, a pelican vul-<br />
nered, proper.<br />
HOME <strong>of</strong> Todrig in the Merse, an ancient cadet <strong>of</strong> the family <strong>of</strong> Home, car-<br />
ried, quarterly, first and fourth Home, second and third argent, one papingoe vert,<br />
beaked and membred gules, for Pepdie ; as on his seal appended to a resignation <strong>of</strong><br />
the lands <strong>of</strong> Todrig in the year 1491.<br />
HOME <strong>of</strong> Eccles, quarterly, first Home, second Pepdie, third argent, three<br />
escutcheons vert, for Home <strong>of</strong> Broxmouth ; the fourth as the first ; crest, a lion's<br />
head erased, and full faced : motto, True to the end.<br />
The first <strong>of</strong> this family was Sir James Home, who got from his father, Cowden-<br />
to the Lord Home.<br />

HUME <strong>of</strong> Kimmerghame, descended <strong>of</strong> a second brother <strong>of</strong> the House <strong>of</strong> Polwarth,<br />
carried, quarterly, first Home, within a bordure ingrailed argent ; second<br />
Polwarth, third Sinclair ; and fourth as first ; crest, a lion's head erased argent,<br />
with a collar powdered with roses and flower-de-luces gules : motto, True to the<br />
end.<br />
This family has <strong>of</strong> late failed in an heir-male, and the fortune is now fallen to<br />
Sir Andrew Hume, a younger son <strong>of</strong> the Earl <strong>of</strong> Marchmont, as heir-male, one <strong>of</strong><br />
the Senators <strong>of</strong> the College <strong>of</strong> Justi.ce, who carries his father's arms, as before,<br />
v, ithih a bordure ermine. As in Plate <strong>of</strong> Achievements.<br />
Sir GUSTAVUS HUME <strong>of</strong> Home-Castle in Ireland, descended <strong>of</strong> Sir Alexander<br />
Hume <strong>of</strong> North-Berwick, a younger son <strong>of</strong> Polwarth, who was Provost <strong>of</strong> Edinburgh<br />
in the reign <strong>of</strong> King James VI. carried, quarterly, first and fourth, the arms<br />
<strong>of</strong> Polwarth <strong>of</strong> that Ilk ; second and third Sinclair ; and over all an escutcheon, by<br />
way <strong>of</strong> surtout vert, a lion rampant argent, on a chief <strong>of</strong> the last, three papingoes<br />
<strong>of</strong> the first, for Home and : Pepdie Which arms were lately placed by our heralds<br />
on the funeral escutcheon <strong>of</strong> George Hume <strong>of</strong> Kimmerghame, and are so cut in<br />
the Plate <strong>of</strong> Achievements.<br />
HOME <strong>of</strong> Ninewells is said to be descended <strong>of</strong> Home <strong>of</strong> Tvningham, who was<br />
<strong>of</strong> a younger son <strong>of</strong> Home <strong>of</strong> that Ilk, vert, a lion rampant arge.it, within a bordure<br />
or, charged with nine fountains or wells, proper, relative to his de ignation ;<br />
crest, a lion's head erased argent, collared : gules motto, True to the end. Lyon<br />
Register.<br />
HOME <strong>of</strong> Whitefield, descended <strong>of</strong> a brother <strong>of</strong> Ninewells, quarterly, first and<br />
fourth Home <strong>of</strong> Ninewells ; second Pepdie, third argent, a stag's head erased, with<br />
a'cross pateefitcbe, between his attires gules, for Cairncross; his mother being the<br />
only sister <strong>of</strong> Mr Alexander Cairncross, sometime Parson <strong>of</strong> Dumfries, and after<br />
Archbishop <strong>of</strong> Glasgow. He died unmarried, Bishop <strong>of</strong> Raphoe in Ireland, to whose<br />
fortune the above George Home <strong>of</strong> Whitefield succeeded.<br />
