Murray <strong>of</strong> Woodend, descended <strong>of</strong> Murray <strong>of</strong> Ochtertyre, who was descended<br />

<strong>of</strong> Tullibardin, azure, a cross putee between three mullets argent, within a<br />

double tressare counter-flowered or, with the badge <strong>of</strong> Nova Scotia ; crest, a<br />

dexter hand holding a mirror, proper : motto, Nosce teipsum. New Register.<br />

Sir WILLIAM MURRAY <strong>of</strong> Ochtertyre, Baronet, azure, three stars argent, in the<br />

centre a cross <strong>of</strong> the second, surmounted <strong>of</strong> a saltier gules > crest, an olive branch,<br />

DAVID MURRAY, Apothecary and Burgess <strong>of</strong> Perth, descended <strong>of</strong> a fourth son <strong>of</strong><br />

There are other ancient families <strong>of</strong> the name <strong>of</strong> Murray in the north ; as Murray<br />

<strong>of</strong> Coubine, and Murray <strong>of</strong> Pulrossie in Sutherland, and others <strong>of</strong> the name<br />

in Caithness, whose armorial bearings I have not met with. The name has spread
