The name <strong>of</strong> TRAIL, argent, on a fesse gules, between three cross croslets fitched<br />

The first <strong>of</strong> this name is said to have come from Tyrol in Germany, from<br />
whence the name, by corruption TRAIL.<br />
There was one HUGH TRAIL, in the reign <strong>of</strong> Robert III. who defeat an English<br />
champion in a tournament at Berwick, as our histories acquaint us.<br />
WALTER TRAIL, Bishop <strong>of</strong> St Andrews, eminent both in the church and state,<br />
in the reign <strong>of</strong> King Robert III. purchased the lands <strong>of</strong> Blebo ; which he gave<br />
to his nephew TRAIL <strong>of</strong> Blebo, who carried azure, a cheveron between two mas-<br />

a writing pen, proper ; and for motto, Favente Deo ; as yi fhe Flate <strong>of</strong> Achieve-<br />
ments.<br />
He married ALISIA LIVINGSTON, daughter and heiress <strong>of</strong> WILLIAM LIVINGSTON <strong>of</strong><br />
Parkhall, grandchild and representative <strong>of</strong> JOHN LIVINGSTON, sometime designed<br />
<strong>of</strong> BALDARROW, and after <strong>of</strong> HAINING, brother <strong>of</strong> LIVINGSTON <strong>of</strong> Kilsyth.<br />
ALEXANDER LIVINGSTON, now <strong>of</strong> Parkhall, eldest son <strong>of</strong> the above ALEXANDER<br />
MITCHELL, and ALISIA LIVINGSTON, as representative <strong>of</strong> the said family, bears the<br />
name and arms <strong>of</strong> LIVINGSTON, with a suitable difference, <strong>of</strong> which in another<br />
place.<br />
DAVID MITCHELL <strong>of</strong> Wester-Newbirnie, sable, a fesse invected between three<br />
mascles or : motto, Omnia superat diligentia.<br />
